Drove through Dublin Airport tonight and couldn't help noticing that the large advertisement billboard located 50m outside Aer Lingus' head office had an advert with the words "100% A350" superimposed on a computer generated image of the A350. Not exactly inside industry info but an interesting observation nonetheless. Could this be Airbus rubbing it in before Dubai?

So by that logic QF will be ordering them too after Airbus spent US$550,000 on A350 Billboards at SYD right next to the QF Jetbase? Nope, though Mr Leahy confirmed, whilst in SYD, that they were strategically placing A350 Advertisments where there are current RFP's with decisions due soon.

I have noticed similar posters but with other airlines and aircraft. For example at MAD behind the Alitalia check in desk there is a computer generated photo of a Alitalia B777-300ER crossing the Atlantic, in the bottom right hand corner the words *Boeing 777-300ER crossing the Atlantic* are written.
The first time I noticed it was in March 2004 when I was checking in for a KLM flight to AMS, the KLM check-in counter is situated right next to the Alitalia counter, I thought that the image was of a B767-400 but when I check in for a Alitalia flight to MXP earlier this year, thats when I noticed that it was a B777-300ER and also the lettering in the right hand corner.
Since Aer Lingus is a Airbus customer it could just be for advertising purposes.

Yep, I also noticed the large billboard when exiting DUB last Thursday and again the other day I saw 4 large ads in the departures terminal at DUB... I'm sure you saw that DM said in an interview with the Sunday Tribune last weekend that EI will be placing an order in the next two months. Also said he wants to double the fleet in the coming years to 42 short-haul and 14 long-haul. So if they are planning more short-hall, I'd be really surprised if they didn't go Airbus as this month EI have become an all Airbus airline. Maybe some of those badly needed (319's or even 318's) IMO to fill the quiter routes out of season??

What I like about one of the posters is the "100% A350" sounds as if Aer Lingus are saying it, seeing as it is outside their head office, but they obviously would not be saying that.
I do hope for an A350 order with newer A330s in the fleet until the A350s are ready, I like the idea of more Airbus aircraft in the EI fleet.

It now looks as if an A350 order is imminent; 12 frames to be announced soon, although no model split as yet.
This will be one of the biggest orders - and the biggest in value terms that EI has ever made, so it represents a clear intention to develop new long haul routes.
Many rumours leading up to the long haul order have centred on Boeings, but even still, I don't think this will come as a major surprise, since EI is an all Airbus airline now. I think a key factor would have been the respective manufacturer's proposals for interim fleets; the A350 won't be around until 2012 or so, which means another six years of waiting, during which EI will benefit (and not before time!) from Open Skies - which begins this time next year. I would expect that Airbus will have reached agreement with EI on what aircraft will be provided in the meantime. EI will also want the older A330s (the early -300s) to be taken off them; I can't see these hanging around until 2012.
Pure speculation on my part, but if - as expected - EK orders A350s, it is likely to cancel its A340-600 order (today's rumour of a 777-300ER must point in that direction) and this will leave delivery positions open in 2007, which could be changed to A330s.
No doubt we'll hear more about this in the weeks ahead.

It's all looking more and more like an Airbus order.
With Aer Lingus expanding to the Middle East and soon more routes to the U.S.A, I hope Airbus or Boeing can get the aircraft to fill Aer Lingus' need. I'm sure that Airbus could with the suspected EK cancel, but what about Boeing, can they do it?
