KBHM (Birmingham Intl) Worth Spotting?

I just moved to Alabama and was curious if anyone could tell me if spotting at Birmingham Intl is worth it? I know it is a smaller airport but was curious of other users thoughts.

If you have been there, whats the best place? I see from the web site that it has a parking garage, does it have a top deck where you can see pretty well or is there another spot that is better? Any info would be helpfull.

Hi
A good few years since I was there, but the car park above the terminal
in the middle of the field allowed great views. Found it a very interesting
place, plenty of CRJ's/EJ's etc plus USAF KC135's on rework.

The deck is good but you can also park on East Lake Blvd for great views. It runs parallel to 6/24 and is close enough and elevated over the runway to allow great views. The city even puts trash cans along the fence to accomodate this - very different than most places these days.

The easiest way to get to this area is to get off I-20/59 at Tallapoosa St and go north. East Lake Blvd will be the first right turn(Cowboy's is on your left). If you get to the guard bases you've gone too far.

Also, you have to eat lunch at VJ's on the runway. Great lunch! Their old location is literally under the planned runway extension so they had to move recently. They are on East Lake Blvd. on the side opposite 6/24.

You'll mainly see 737, various flavors of Rj, and DC-9/MD whatevers with a few 757s and the odd 767 for airliners. Military is mostly KC-135, CH-47, and UH-60. Fedex/UPS fly a variety of A300/310, 727, and 767. Charters and private can be literally anything and everything. I've seen everything from Taylorcraft and Cubs up to AN-124 and 747.

Another interesting local airport is at Gadsden. There is a company there that imports various Eastern block fighters for resale, training, etc.

I didnt see much. What I did see was a united express crj700 in the new colors, a delta crj200, usairways crj200, delta md-88 (my favorite!),southwest 737 and a few of the kc-135's. For a big plane, the 135 stopped very quickly using only brakes. I was there for about 2 hours waiting for the fedex 727 to move, but no luck.

I did however get ran off the road by a 18 wheeler and into the orange road construction cbarrels. I drive a 2004 corvette (white) and it took out my mirror which in turn hit my side window and cracked it. It also put some nice smeared black pinstripes on it! All in all, a pretty expensive day! I live 30 miles east of Birmingham and I could see my exit from where I hit the barrel. That was the worst part, knowing either being a minute sooner or later and I would have been ok! I only drive it about once per month and I think this is my sign it's time to sell it! haha
