I think that Embraer is coming up pretty strongly into the market, its EMB-145/135 are a complete sucess. Today Continental, American, USair, BA, Portugalia, LOT, Rio-Sul, Cityline, Regional Airlines, KLM and many other airlines are ordering the Brazilian jets. Now i'm not really up to the Canadian jets future in that category, because sooner or later EMBRAER is going to dominate the market, if any response by the Bombardier comes up!!!

What you thing about that?????
have you guys seen the new ERJ-170/190 and the new ERJ-140, they are big promisses...........

The Embraer are good airplanes and they serve a specific purpose.....I don't know why you seem to imply that there is no competition for the ERJ's Bombardier for example has a direct competitor for every one of ERJ's airplanes, flying or not.....And a horizon pilot said in a previouse post, the BBD jets have better range to load performance, and are found to be overall more comfortable and efficient on longer thin routes...where as teh erj's is much better suited to shorter hops........not to mention the fact, and i'm sure that someone will despute it but the CRJ's are quieter then the ERJ inside and out.....As for the other Aircraft developers like Dornier i am not as up to date with their developments, but I am sure they are ready to take on ERJ and it's subsudised airplanes.......(Sorry i had to throw that one in)

Looks like you are more than out about that one. You can´t be based on someone´s opinion. If the Canadairs are better why does the orders of ERJs are increasing?
Idon´t think AA or CO would complain about it. The canadians are a little scared with the Brazilian developments. Please take that for serious!!!!!!

Canadair´s are way traditional and waste to much fuel, what does not occur with the ERJs. The low cost of operation with ERJs makes them more profitable for airlines. Get UPDATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will use Horizon as an example: they choose the CRJ because of it's better performance on longer flights, if you had read my first post you would have seen that I did say that on shorter flights the ERJ's is a great plane and is equally and maybe even more efficient. Nor did I ever say that it was a bad airplane, I was just pointing out that there is a strong competition for the ERJ airplanes. And you are right orders are increasing for ERJ's...but they are also increasing for the CRJ, Horizon just last week ordered 70 more airplanes, and many of the airlines you mentioned above operate a mixed fleet of both the erj and the crj...I do not need to e updated thank you very much...I try to stay on top of all the new events in the industry.....and again back to your statement about me stating personal opinion...I DID NOT...It is fact that Horizon choose the CRJ over the ERJ because they felt it suited them much better on the longer flghts.......I can not remember who it was that posted it, but he was a pilot with Horizon..and I hope he makes a post here....even though this topic has been beaten to death almost as much as Airbus vs Boeing....

This could be argued long and hard, but it comes down to a lot of factors. I suggest reading this post at http://www.airliners.net/discussions/tech_ops/read.main/1545/ as it applies to RJ's as well.

As to ERJ's yes they're a success. But so are the CRJ's, so don't be too biased one way, remember that the ERJ was built to emulate the CRJ success, and that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Let's not argue this, they are competing aircraft with different strengths, and we don't need another Boeing/Airbus style argument.

Here at Mesa we just took delivery of our first of up to 100 (options included) ERJs. They will operate on the East Coast under the US Airways codeshare while the America West codeshare in the West and Midwest will inherit their CRJs. It is my understanding that one of the reasons the ERJ was selected was Bombardier's inability to deliver new CRJs on time due to their huge backlog of orders. In a related note, I remember reading something about oil seals in the ERJ's engines leaking badly when the temprature dropped below freezing, requiring an oil-consumption run anytime the aircraft spent the night in those conditions. I've also seen photos of an ERJ that broke in half during a landing (the specifics are unknown to me). Can anyone give me more info on these items?

After a couple hours of not-so-exhaustive research, I found that the ERJ (a -145) that broke in half did so after an EXTREMELY heavy landing. As such, there was no undue failure of the fuselage structure. In fact, the crew was able to taxi the aircraft off the runway to evacuate the pax. Amazing. But I'm still wondering if the problem with the engine oil seals remains.

The problem with the oil seals appear on the first year of operation...

Now the seal are replaced and the problem seems to be ended...

Any new aircraft or engine (I mean recently born model), have some initial problems that are resolved on the first 2 years of operation... ERJ or CRJ.

About the history of Regional Jets development... It is not an idea of Bombardier... Both companies start the regional jets projects on middle 80's... but embraer had hard financial problems that delayed ERJ.

But the market is strong enough to support 2 or even 3 different models in each category of regional jets... Some market analisys point to a 13.000 regional jet market over the next 20 years!!!
