Spice Jet Delhi-Chennai Night Flight

Spice Jet will start a night flight from Delhi to Chennai via Hyderabad starting December 4. I hope they are getting a discount for landing fees, and this if it takes off can alleviate problems of overcrowding at peak hours at domestic airports. AAI should consider raising landing fees at peak hours and provide substantial discounts for late night flights which can be passed on to passengers. Are there discounts for late night landings-does any one know?

These late night flights can also help passengers connect to international flights from Delhi and Bombay and not have a prolonged layover at these airports.

The "built-in" discount comes by way of not having to hang around in the sky in holding patterns all over the countryside. That's pretty much as good as it gets.

Good point. And if they keep flying the aircraft through the night they won't need a parking bay at major airports. They should also be able to provide cargo feed to international flights.

Thats true,Including a 2 hr halt at BOM.Was talking to a F/O Friend who spend some time during hs 2 hr break with us.According to him 0S has got good plans to pick more B738s only in 2006.
The current loads on the Del-Amd-Bom-Amd-Del look good.

Currently theres just 2 spare Bays at BOM [Domestic Terminal] before the 9W Hyd & Blr night flts leave.Remember parking space is more in the Day.Not Night.

I was thinking that Sahara would fly this route at night ( DEL-HYD-MAA) as they would be able to pick up passengers from AA's new ORD-DEL flight. Since the flight arrives late in the night, and there weren't any flights from DEL to other destinations after the AA flight arrives, I thought Sahara would start a DEL-HYD-MAA and DEL-BOM-BLR flights for connecting passengers. And as Spicejet had already demonstrated, with a right fare structure, the route could be profitable with both domestic and connecting passengers feeding it.

Is Continental tied up with anyone for onward connections to BOM/MAA/BLR/HYD? Doesn't the CO flight arrive late too? Given that some US airlines have 773, and DEL is with in range from JFK, ORD, EWR, expect more non-stop flights to DEL if an Indian airline can provide onward connections to southern cities at late hours. Sahara is well placed to provide onward connections given DEL is their base.

Usually its 9W which provides the interlining for Skyteam carriers. I think it is so even in this case.

At Bom in the Domestic side.Each Airline has a fixed no of slots.One bay reserved for VVIP Flights,At times its occupied by IC or Kingfisher,but if a VVIP aircraft is due,then it has to be vacated.

Bay #13 that no one wants  Smile. BDA/DHL uses it for last 10 years.

With the construction of 8 additional bays.Thee are 2-3 vacant bays around.
Even Both GO Air A320s are parked out here currently.

Normally IC,CD & Kingfisher are requested to move their Aircraft temporarily to accomodate Transitting Aircraft if there is a bay problem as they have Hangars available.

Thanks for the information. I would like to know how new gate slots will be allocated in the future. Is there a use it or lose it policy to prevent hogging? Can gate slots be traded or they go back to AAI?

Im not aware on any fixed policy.But depending on the numbers of Aircraft at each base,the bays are allotted.
9W main base is BOM so they have majority.
But in case of Divertions due Del Fog there is bound to be a bay problem so Airlines will be towing their aircraft to vacate some bays.

BTW...The number of Pax travelling by Rail in India in a Day is almost equal to the number of Pax travelling by Air In India.[Not including the Ticketless travellers  Smile]

not true!!! the number of passenger Indian Railways carries in a day is equivalent to population of Australia, and if you include WT (without ticket) then that alone is equivalent to population of New Zealand.
