IC On BOM-MAA - A Few Questions

Hey folks,

After flying LHR-BOM with AI122 (744), I was meant to be connecting with AI640 (313) from BOM to MAA. The BOM-MAA is now operated by IC and one of its 320 aircraft, although the flight number remains the same. Although BOM-MAA is a short flight - it has a block time of 1 hour 45 minutes - I am curious to understand a few basic things about IC, so have the following questions:

1) Will I receive inclusive refreshments on my flight? (#640 leaves BOM at 0315 and arrives into MAA at 0500.)

2) If yes to the above, what kind of food can I expect?

3) Does IC's 320 machines have PTVs?

4) If yes to the above, what kind of entertainment can I expect?

5) How is IC's overall service?

6) Will I board BOM via an airbridge or walk/coach it to the terminal?

7) Will I disembark at MAA via an airbridge or walk/coach it to the terminal?

8) Any other points I should know?

Thanks a lot!

There are no PTVs in any A320s of IC. You can expect some refreshment on each flight, irrespective of its timings on IC  Smile

IC will give you a full meal and beverage service.

If you like Indian food, you will be pleasently surprised. IC isn't as good as 9W, but their food is not bad. At least I've always liked it.

3) Does IC's 320 machines have PTVs?

No PTVs on IC 320s. Their 320 fleet is pretty old (dating from the late 80s).

Quoting Pe@rson (Thread starter):
4) If yes to the above, what kind of entertainment can I expect?

No entertainment, but it's not that long of a flight so it shouldn't be too bad.

Quoting Pe@rson (Thread starter):
5) How is IC's overall service?

IC is definitely not Jet Airways, Kingfisher or Air Sahara, but their service has improved over the years. You won't get anything exceptional, but at least they serve a hot meal.

Quoting Pe@rson (Thread starter):
6) Any other points I should know?

Compared with India's other domestic airlines, IC is nothing to brag about. However, they have good flight schedules and offer the best network. If you get a chance when you're in India, try flying Jet, Kingfisher or Sahara. Hope you have a great trip!

Thanks for your quick replies.

Yep, the block time is only 1 hour 45 minutes, but it's always nice to know what to expect.

Or, in my case, the sleeper class - hell, I might even occasionally treat myself to 3rd AC - on the innumberable trains.  Silly

Woohoo - just 8 days and I'll be off to India - again - for just over 2 1/2 months.  Big grin

Just read up on security guidelines at the BCAS website . . . things are kind of strict. Polite, but strict.

I find IC's service pretty good, legroom is generally on the better side compared to the private carriers, but try and get row 8 if you're flying economy - this is the first seat of Y class (usually). Some of the owned A320's are showing their age, they are bit noisier and rattle a bit more than the newer A320's of Kingfisher and Deccan. And the Food - who says its bad - IC food (especially Brekker) is generally better than most other carriers in India.

From what I know from many years ago.

IC don't have any entertainment not even headphones for music.

Also to get the IC flight at BOM, Don't you need to go from Sahar to Santacruz after Customs and immigration and checkin your baggage again at BOM(santacruz)? or have things changes lately?

Just a holiday.

Any idea how AI's check-in counters at LHR open before departure? I ask because #122 leaves at 1005 and I want to get there early so as not to queue forever. I am hoping to get there at 7am at the latest.

3 hours before scheduled departure is when they open AI counters at LHR.
