I am planning a trip to CDG and I would like to do some spotting from my hotel room. The Sheraton would probably be the best but it is out of my price range. I am currently looking at either the Novotel or Ibis which are located near Terminal 2 or the Hilton by Terminal 1. Any input from someone who is familiar with the area or has stayed in one of these hotels would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi!
we stayed in Ibis Hotel, 15-20 June 2005. Its very good for checking the airplanes anytime. You can see both direction (landing, take off). The windows are double-layered, so if you want to relax, just close them and you wont hear anything
if you rent a car, Ibis can be the best choice, because you can reach many good spotter places within 15 mins.
Of course Hilton is better, but costs much more than the lowcost Ibis.

Thanks for the reply Andras. One more question. Do you recommend a south facing room to overlook the Terminal 2 complex or one looking in another direction. I plan to be writing down registrations and since the weather is going to be poor the next couple days I am probably going to end up inside most of the time.

Depends which tower you are in, the Ibis has two. North and South
Therefore a North facing room in the North tower will allow views
of T1 and T9 plus the two runways. A South facing room in
the South tower will allow views of T2 and some of the cargo poss.
The main thing is to get a high floor facing the right direction
otherwise you will face the other tower! I have never been above 4
so good luck!
