Charleroi judicial authorities are investigating the cheap flight airline, Ryanair, for allegations of fiscal fraud and forgery. Two directors are to be heard by the examining magistrate at the beginning of next month.
Investigators are concentrating mainly on activities at Promocy, the Charleroi Airport promotion company. That company is half owned by the Walloon government. The other half is in the hands of the airline, Ryanair.
It seems that Promocy is used to finance free or almost free tickets, whereby passengers only pay airport taxes. It is therefore alleged that these tickets are partly finance with taxpayers money.

The examining magistrate has also concerns about a number of Ryanair invoices.

Investigators are looking into the authenticity of these invoices, in order to establish whether the airline is guilty of fraudulent tax evasion.

Two Ryanair directors, Michael Cawley and Bernard Berger, have been summoned to appear before the examining magistrate in early December. They are to answer to allegations of fiscal fraud and forgery of documentation.

So far, no comment has been made from the Irish airline.
