There are speculations for a while but CX's Chairman has denied such rumour sometime. And he strongly believes that Dragonair is profitable.

What does this mean? Is there a chance that CX will be buying Dragonair one day? It does make sense to me since CX can make good use of Dragonair to expand into China which they lack behind competitiors like SQ, JL etc. The process of gaining rights to China is just too slow.......

Wonder if they will ever takeover Dragonair. And if yes, will they keep Dragonair's brandname?

Dont take this the wrong way but you only post things we already know or you ask questions that there are no answers for.

The CX/CA/KA rumour has been about for months, its already known that KA nolonger have and fixed plans and all future longhaul plans are finished.

I would also like to know what happened to B-HWH. There was a delivery flight from TLS on Oct 22nd that was canx, since then nothing......

Yes I know the CX/CA/KA rumour has been around for months. But CX has denied a possible equity link up with CA and KA and Swire will continue to be the largest/principal shareholder of CX. They also denied rumours about them being taken over by CA. Nor will they takeover KA.

So I am not sure. But I wonder if KA will ever expand internationally, like flying to SYD and LHR as planned.

You sure they no longer take deliveries of new aircraft????

I don't wannt it happen!
I don't want to see Cathay monopoly the air transportation in Hong Kong. I welcome more airline based in Hong Kong to increase the competition,
More competition, better service.

I don't think he hates CX but he simply wants more competition and that's it.

But it will be good to see CX taking over KA as it will make itself more competitive over SQ, QF, EK etc. It might even overtake SQ and QF in terms of size.

Are you sure about that? I always thaught SQ and QF as being larger than CX even if CX would take over KA, KA isn't a very large airline as far as I know.

It's nice to see new competition in the market, CR Airways and Hong Kong Express both set up and hopefully will expand. CR Airways already having talk of 737's. You can't really argue much on the "more competition= better service" in this case because Cathay and Dragonair only compete on a certain number of routes, they are not direct competitiors. There is over capacity on the SYD route so that foiled KA's plans to fly there. I don't see a merger between the two airlines, the culture of the two companies are different, so one has to think of the conflicts.

United Airline, do a search with CXCPA's username to understand what N754PR is talking about.

In terms of RPKs I suppose so.

The original plan was that KA would fly to SYD at some point. Is the plan still on? If yes when will they come?

I suppose CX can takeover KA and use its rights to start its own service to China and yet keep KA as a separate airline
