G'day

Air One is to get up to 80 A320'ies, so it says on Skyliner Aviation News, though no details are provided.

Anyone to confirm this deal?

Cheers

Peter

Is there eny official confirmation of this order ??
C'ause that's one hell of a lot of planes for Air One -they are working with LH in Italy but I don't see that many capacity requirement in Italy -so there must be something else behind this order.

They're entirely domestic at the moment aren't they?

It does rather suggest they would be expanding as an LCC into international markets.....

If true this is very interesting , first Aegean , now Air One - perhaps LHs partners scent blood in the air from OA and AZ ?

Hi Wings

it's entirely possible that I have gone blind ( Mum always warned me I would one day  Wink ) but I have followed that link and can't see any reference to an A320 order for Air One ?

Why the switch from 737's? Don't they have 737NG's in their fleet?

Yes, they are.
The only exception is a flight from Pescara to Corfu (I guess seasonal).
Other international routes are in codeshare with LH, AC, A3.

At the present time AP fleet is composed of 30 B737 ( 200s, 300s and 400s). They leased some NG years before.

They'll be codesharing with US Airways very soon as well--they've already filed with the DOT for approval.

For about 2 years they studied both A320 family and 737NG family.
This order is not a surprise.Only the huge number if the options are exercised is surprising.

Air one TO order 30 Airbus A320's, with an option of 60 more"

To replace an old fleet of 30 737-200, 737-300 and 737-400 aircraft, 30 A320 seems a lot of aircraft to me.

A mixed fleet of A319's and A320's seemd more logic to me  Smile.
But who am I though!!

Anyway, if it is official, contgrats to Airbus and Air One..

have a good day, Stefan van Hierden

On which routes? FCO-PHL and VCE-PHL?
It's similar to the c/s with Spanair on routes to MAD and BCN.

The US/AP codeshare will be more extensive than the US/JK codeshare, which is limited by the restrictive U.S.-Spain bilateral; the U.S. and Italy have open-skies.

Air One hasn't applied to put its code on US flights yet, but when it does, it'll be first on FCO-PHL, then presumably on VCE-PHL.

The initial codeshare will be US putting its code on AP flights; the first round of routes will be FCO-AHO/CTA/GOA/LIN/LMP/PNL/PMO/SUF/TPS/TRN/TRS/VCE, VCE-BRI.

Well, maybe this has got something to do with Alitalia's difficulties. Their shares have plumeted on the Milan stock exchange with no solution or realistic re-financing in sight. Perhaps Air One is preparing for the time after Alitalia.

That could explain the high number of options.

G´day

Having searched Italian web news all I could find regarding the subject is in the "Il Sole 24 Ore" online edition dd. 23/11/2005 titled

"Air One, trattativa con Airbus"

meaning Air One is in negotiations with Airbus.

http://www.ricerca24.ilsole24ore.com...path=%2Fsearch%2Fsearch_engine.jsp

On that date, 23/11/2005, Air One celebrated the 10th anniversary. The news may have been inadvertently been revealed at this event.

Cheers

Peter
