Hi all,

I just read on http://news.airwise.com/story/view/1132830307.html that AZ will cancel 230 flights tomorrow. I will fly LIS-MXP-SKP and I am a bit worried about the second leg (not the first as it is operated by NI).

Does anyone know which flights will be affected? My flight number is AZ0550.

I tried to call AZ but none of their phones is being picked up, as usual.

Thanks in advance!

Just to make a point:

It's not an AZ strike but an ATC strike from 1100-1500 utc

Key Points to Notam Issued:

NOT AFFECTED

a) Flights overflying Italian airspace
b) State, Military, Medical, Humanitarian and Rescue Flights
c) All Flight operating under "Special Notice" issued by the Italian Goverment
d) All domestic flights operating at the commencement of the strike
e) Incoming International Flights Estimated to arrive before 1130 utc
f) All Intercontinental Flights

Sorry, no good news,

It seems that your flight was canceled. I checked it on Alitalia Site.

Go to Alitatlia site and you can check the Status of your flight in the following link:
http://www.alitalia.com/Fly/FlyInfo/FlightStatusDetail.aspx
and just whrite in your flight number and date.

Wish you luck on finding an alternative or that the status of your flight changes.

Best regards

Thanks for the info guys.

That is especially interesting, because it may affect also the first flight if it's not purely an AZ thing.

Not my lucky day...

Hi!
Tuff luck!
At least at that time when I posted previously, Portugalia didn't have any cancellation of their flights to Italy.
You should call them to be sure (they generally answer the phone).

Regards,

Not more than 365 days in any year*

*excluding leap years where provision may be made for an additional strike on 29Feb

Just to point out what is true and what it is not true (your sarcasm apart)
tomorrow there is a general strike, not an AZ strike, not an ATC strike. This means that there is a strike in all the country, in almost all the sectors of public and economic life of the country.
As a worker, I can only envy the situation of those countries where the workers don't have the need (or the possibility) to strike.  sarcastic

They did, and as far as they know the flight will be operated normally. Also, my connecting flight leaves at 1720 (1620UTC) which is after the end of the strike. Why...

Last time I flew from Italy there was no strike! There was just a national electricity black-out. Imagine FCO with 1 desk operational....

How can all workers be striking? What workplace issues do flight attendants, pilots, police officers, ATC staff, janitors, nurses and bus drivers have in common?

Obviously you do not much about the labor/social situation in places like Italy, France, Greece, etc..

The Italian's don't need a great reason to strike. Wouldn't quite be the same in Italy without a striking.

I'm not supporting this kind of strike because it is part of the political debate against goverment.
Anyway we could say that Italy is the country of the strikes just because the italians are lazy and they just find every kind of excuse simply not to go to work, right?

One of Italy's many great qualities. The only thing that annoys me is I have to walk home in the cold sleety/snow tonight as there are no busses. Damn.

All joking aside, I should add these strikes get damn right annoying and sometimes uncalled for - it seems that they don't always have a real genuine reason to strike. Every time I fly it seems AZ, ATC or someone decides they want to strike and mess my plans up royally.

My plans have screwed up royally as well! I checked in for the NI-operated flight LIS-MXP this morning, only to be told after 1,5 hours of waiting that the flight had been cancelled. Now I'm hoping to get on the 16.00 AZ flight.

Do AZ have to offer me accomodation? I was supposed to continue to SKP today but that will only be tomorrow morning. Can AZ escape the EU Air Pax Rights protocol by saying it wasn't their fault?

Somehow I'd say Berlusconi will suffer less from this strike than ordinary people. So what's the point???

If the best they can do is tomorrow, expect a night in a hotel at MXP at their expense with meals and transfers. Been there, done that. Nice hotel if they use the same one as they have with me.

Getting compensation from them can be bloody difficult, they just seem to rather bump you to Business (If your in ecom).

Well I'll be "happy" if they put me in an MXP hotel. That is, happy given the circumstances. Apparently the AZ ticket desk is working on it.

Biz class would be welcome...

What a damn shame. I love Italy. I sure wish they'd pull their collective heads out of their asses.
