A few weeks ago I was travelling in the gulf and was booked to fly from Bahrain to Beirut on Gulf Air. I had originally booked economy but later decided to change to business class. I contacted my travel agent in London who made all the changes and paid the extra fare etc. When I arrived at the airport I went to the ticket desk to re-validate my tickets (as intsructed). The chap at the desk called up the details on his computer and then looked very confused. Gulf Air in London had sent the upgrade info to Dubai not Bahrain and thus the ticket counter in Bahrain could not change my ticket to a business class ticket. I was a little confused (not to mention annoyed) to find that they could not issue the upgraded ticket because the instructions were sent to the wrong airport (EVEN if they could see that all payments had been made etc. on their computer.)

If the ticket is a PTA (pre-paid ticket advice) where the fare is purchased at another city other than the departure point then yes, this is a problem. The PTA advice needs to be attached to the audit ticket coupons so it would have to be resent from London.

I had a friend who flew gulf air once.
On the way back, he had been told his ticket had been canceled and to return he would have to buy another. In the end his travel agent had to buy a new ticket with another airline 2 days later.
Someone else I knew bought a Gulf Air ticket, arrived at the airport and was told the ticket didnt guarentee them a seat only a reservation of a seat. They had to wait 2 days to go, because higher revenue passengers took their seat.
And in my own case Gulf Air informed me because a flight was full and my fare was cheaper than other passengers my ticket was canceled, and they gave me a refund... 2 days before I was due to fly.
Since then... I chose more wisely when I pick an airline.
So far in 2008 45 flights and Gold already. JFK, IAD, LGA, SIN, HKG, NRT, AKL, PPT, LAX still to book ! Home Airport LCY
