I was working on sunday's flight KL590 from ACC to AMS.
This flight was operated by PH-AOA brandnew A332.
Two previous MD11 flights had been seriously delayed(4hours) so
we were happy that everything seem to be going well now and an on time
departure would be welcome.
We started taxiing towards the active runway when suddenly we stop,
for ten minutes we hear nothing from the cockpit, when finally the captain
made an announcement. Apparently there had been a mistake with the
parking position of the SAA 744(continuing to IAD), and we came too
close, the two wings would collide. The only option in such case is having
a pushback truck towing you back. Only there were no more working
pushbacktrucks available, they were all broke, and even if the drivers were
all home!!!
We had to wait untill SA was gone till we could move again, wich once again
resulted in a two hour delay, a bunch of missed connections, and angry
PAX who swore never to fly KL again.
Well, that's africa for you! I love it in way, not so much in another!!!
If some people wonder, the A332 was scheduled to fly LOS, but KL has decided not to land their A332 there for now, because of the runway damage,
apparently the A332's engines are lower to the ground then the MD11's and
they are too afraid for damage. Once the runway is OK the Airbus will fly to LOS

I know it happens all the time, globally, but you got to love the passengers, blame KLM for some Ghanian ATC officer putting the SAA on the wrong gate, and all the ACC ground tugs being damaged.

Thats a typical day in african aviation. i recall on a MEA flight from LOS, the flight was delayed for about an hour as they could not find the baggage handlers
