The new brand will be called 'Indian' this will be addition to the Alliance Air (CD) brand, which will continue (however the rumours persist that the brand will be killed). The first aircraft featuring this brand will be a A319 and will be unveiled in Delhi on the 7th. The livery will feature the Konark Sunwheel in blue on a Saffron background. 'Indian' will be a no-frills carrier operating on major sectors and will start service by mid-December.

Will it be exclusively A 319, as IC right now only has A 320s? (CD flies 737-200s)

The A319 saga is a bit strange - the planes were initially being taken for Alliance, but now the powers that be have decided to kill that airline and start a new brand which will fly the 4 A319's that arrive between now and mid-2006. God knows how the 43 new A32X's will be distributed.

what about the pilots? Will they be trained for the 319/320s..?
Will this new entity also be entitled to fly abroad and say compete with air arabia or deccan lanka... any idea on that?

No idea as yet, the details will become clear over the next few days. From some reports Alliance pilots have been told that some of them will be absorbed into the new carrier, however I doubt that they'll have any problem finding jobs given the current Indian market.

As for the name we have Go and IndiGo, they could have named it GotToGo!!
About the rights to fly abroad, I'd say the policy is such a mish-mash of do's and don'ts.
cheers!!

Looks like CD will eventually shut down.
Also I don't see the B732 freighters having crew unless they pay them 50% more than the market value.
I think a better name should have been chosen.

folks!! read this. This article makes it quite clear that its not just the A319s but whole of IC is in for rebranding. Hindustan Times IA puts on warpaint to appear in ‘Indian’ avatar
As its mint-fresh leased A 319 arrives from Hamburg, Indian Airlines will change its name, motif, colours and maybe to a great extent revitalise itself to be more contemporary. For starters, Indian Airlines will no longer be Indian Airlines but now be called ‘Indian’.
“While there is a clear link to the present, the identity is innovative and fresh. Though the name of the company remains Indian Airlines Ltd, the brand changes completely. The colours and motif are very stylish.”
On December 7, only the new A319 will see the new name and colours atop it, but over a period of time, the entire fleet will see the metamorphosis. The change doesn't stop there. The standard livery will also be altered to enhance the look and feel of the interiors. And the uniforms too will be different.

So this is not related to Alliance Air at all. Just the parent undergoing image makeover. For a moment I thought what will they do with the North East ATRs if they shutdown Alliance Air.
BTW has anyone seen the Indian Airlines/Alliance Air ATRs? I am surprised there are no photos of them anywhere on the Net.

Is VT-SCA still in Hamburg? If if the new colors are to be unveiled in Delhi on December 7th., it must be on it's way to DEL by now. I guess the pictures may be in queue.
An airplane might disappoint any pilot but it'll never surprise a good one.

So from what I understand from the article its not that IA is getting a sub-brand but it's rebranding itself. It will be called Indian and will have a new color scheme and all the schbang associated with it.
It's not like Ted is being formed but United is changing it's name and livery.

Is my thinking correct?
This is what appeared in print today. I was also surprised at reading the article as all along I too was thinking that a new sub airline was being floated.
However, having seen the track record of indian aviaion reporting, I will only believe when the new a/c is invieled in DEL, whether its Indian (a new sub) or a changed IC...
BTW wud anyone know what time it might be in DEL on 7th. I have a 2pm flight to catch, might just geta glimpse...
