Sahara has announced their flight to London (LHR?) from DEL starting Jan 6, 2006, on a 4 class 767, 4x weekly. The promotional economy fare is Rs 28,500 with a free domestic RT ticket or a free RT to Singapore!. Happy to see them going to London. I hope they have a good schedule which would make it possible to connect to either AA or BA flights to USA.

Quoting Aseem (Reply 1): Are they serious about the service or its just a ploy to up their stake in case of buyout
It certainly helps them to play up their international flying rights to potential investors, especially foreign ones. Fly them into DEL from London in Premium Business for negotiations.

Is it really worth them having a 4 class 763? - Since they are new to the route I would think it is better to offer get themselves established on the route before launching a 4 class product.
In addition, it leaves room for just 193 seats, i'm not sure if this is a great idea.

They probably had no choice as this Aircraft must be leased from some airline which can not use it currently.

Is it correct that Jet Airways will start or just started service into LHR as well? Is this route worthy to go into direct competition? AI and BA are flying into DEL, too, don't they?

Yes, Jet Airways have a daily flight from DEL to LHR, which arrives into LHR at about 7am and leaves at 9am - they are leasing the slots from UA.
Quoting A300605R (Reply 11): AI and BA are flying into DEL, too, don't they?
Yes, the following airlines also operate LHR-DEL.
BA - daily at the moment, leaving LHR at about 9am. It will be double daily by May '06.
VS - daily flight, leaving LHR at 9pm
AI - daily

Typical S2, to announce DEL-LHR when there's so much competition on this sector now! I hope they at least get into code-share with BA - so both sides can sell each others inventory - plus tag on to European/Domestic sectors as well.
With throwing in a free return trip to SIN - there go all yields on this route. But that should prove a huge incentive to get the flight going!
The lack of vision/planning is really glaring. This seems to be a publicity stunt to get their price bumped upwards.

I think he forgot to add the 4 daily flights BOM-MAA that got dropped.

Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic, which increased its flight frequency between Mumbai and London from three to seven per week from December 1, has come out with a special return economy offer of Rs 17,777, valid for travel till December 31, 2005. Booking deadlines for Virgin offer is December 15.
A return economy fare in British Airways, the market leader in the India-UK sector, is available for around Rs 30,500, while Air-India sells for around Rs 24,000, Jet Airways for around Rs 20,000, and BMI for Rs 19,000, all exclusive of taxes.
I am surprised that Jet fare is lower than that of AI by Rs 4,000 and BMI is lower by Rs 5,000. Can this be correct?

No - AI usually change their schedules. In December they only have two daily flights on a Saturday:
AI128 Dep 11:45
AI130 Dep 21:30
In February, AI operate the follwing to DEL from LHR, with double daily flights on Mon, Tue, Wed and Sat.

AI112 London New Delhi 0845 2230 744 0 Mon Tue Wed
AI128 London New Delhi 1145 0130 744 0 Sat
AI120 London New Delhi 1830 0815 744 0 Sat
In March, AI operate the following to DEL from LHR, with double daily going back to Sat only.
AI112 London New Delhi 0845 2230 744 0 Mon Tue Wed
AI112 London New Delhi 0945 2235 744 0 Thu Fri
AI128 London New Delhi 1145 0130 744 0 Sat

No 777's are operated on the LHR - DEL routes - only on the LHR-BOM and BHX-ATQ-DEL!
I know AI usually fly LHR-BOM-DEL - but I have not included them as they are not direct!
