I've been spotting a few times at SJC now and just wanted to solicit input. I usually park at the SJSU parking lot to watch pretty much everything land, and even walk from the parking lot along the fence to stand right under the approach for 30L (which is fun).
Is there any equivalent spot to watch takeoffs on the other side of the field? The observation deck is all right, but it's a bit far and the plane isn't done rotating by the time it gets blocked by the terminal.
Also, if there's a better spot to catch inbound landings (the problem with the SJSU lot is the fence near gen.av. and the BRIGHT lights), I'd love to hear about it.

I'm not aware of any rules or regs against this...there very well could be, but I'm simply not aware of any...
...but I always though the employee parking lot was an excellent spot for spotting. The long term parking lot is adjacent to the employee lot so it really all the same. You can easily walk into the lots. I know there are cameras supposedly monitoring the lots but I'm not aware of anything against spotting in there. I have seen a few shots on this website that appear to be taken from that or a similar spot.
