Airbus's new A3XX, is the new mammoth plane. Boeing proposed of coming up with a new 747-400 "Stretch", which would add about 100 seats to the aircraft, making 516 seats total. Will Boeing's 747-400 "Stretch" version be a match for Airbus's new mammoth plane, the A3XX???

Boeing's 747X will never be able to compete against the A3XX effectively. Boeing's strategy on this plane is to use it as a tool to erode the sales potential of the A3XX. Boeing can count on several advantages that its 747X has over the A3XX. The 747X is based on a proven design...meaning the 747X can be made available sooner. With so many 747 operators around Boeing can count on a few of them to order its 747X. Both sides (Airbus & Boeing) will suffer in this battle. I believe we will see the light of Boeing's NLA (new large aircraft) some 5 to 7 years after the 747X enters service. The future of these two mammoth are cloudy. Airbus can make it BIG with this one in the long run but can also go bust with this very risky venture if they are not careful. Boeing must catch up smartly to survive (that is why I believe that NLA will be flying after the 747X does) otherwise they will be the underdog.
