just noticed on LH's website that the number of B744s has gone down from 30 to 29. Does anybody know whether this is just a seasonal withdrawal from the active fleet or whether one airframe has been sold ? And of course the registration of the aircraft involved...

hey, the LH long haul fleet has been used to very hard this summer season, because of that reason the new Business Class product could not be installed on most of the 747-400`s, during the winter the fleet usage calm`s down.
So in this case LH does not need 1 or 2 744`s + during the time their out of service the new Business class product can be installed.

The new IFE was supposed to be installed in all the 744s. As there is a stop to this due to severe quality problems by Rockwell Collins the original plan of installing it step by step in the airplanes was dropped and instead one airplane was taken out of service to save a lot of money.
