Cuenca, Ecuador - International Flights Someday?

It's known that an important % of the GYE - USA passenger traffic actually is from the area of Cuenca.
Would Cuenca Airport handle international flights someday? From BOG or PTY?
By the way, Cuenca Airport happens to be a tough airport to land/take-off just like TGU, EOH, GUA, CUZ...

What's the elevation in Cuenca? Around 2500 meters, right? It would have to have a fairly long runway for flights to make it to North America. UIO's is nearly 11,000 feet IIRC.

Cuenca is at 8000 feer about, UIO a 9230 to be exact. Cuenca plants to go international with WAYRA peru. Thats eems cool, and others. But nothing so far. its a very nice airport actually.

They have just modernised their terminal building. Still must go there to have a look, though. From what city WAYRA Peru will fly if they really are coming to Cuenca?
