My sister got a letter in the mail that was mailed using a TWA Terminal 5 USPS stamp. When she saw it, she cut it out and gave it to me as she knows I am interested in aviation.

I have to say it is a very nice stamp. When was this stamp introduced?

Was it introduced just recently because JetBlue is planning to demolish the old airside and construct a modern new airside in its place?

Are there any other similar stamps out?

I remember as a young child traveling through the famous TWA Terminal 5 a few times. It really is quite unique and I am glad the main part will be preserved.

Does anyone have a list of all the airlines that used this terminal in the past?

Regards

I've seen that stamp. It is part of the Masterworks of Modern American Architecture stamp issue that came out in May of 2005. You can read more at: Masterworks of Modern American Architecture

Unfortunately, there is almost no entity protesting against that demolition.
There was a coincidence which is not so rare, because the Saarinen`s building is among the few terminals that can be considered a masterwork of modern American architecture.

It is really sad that Port Authority with JebBlue will unnecessarily damage this aviation temple.

Well, I know there are movies, documentaries, propagandas and article of encyclopedias that show the Eero Saarinen building, but I do not remember of any stamp instead of the one of the link.

I do not have this list, but I think Northeast used to operate there in the past.

I thought i read that the PA NY/NJ and Jet Blue were going to utilize the old TWA terminal for a food court and build the new terminal next to it.

List of airlines:

TWA
TWA
TWA
No seriously, throw in Sun Country, Carnival, US Air, Trans States, and Royal Jordanian. Those were the ones I can think of near the end.

They are getting rid of the mess of a gate area behind it not the main Terminal 5. It is a landmark and they cannot get rid of it. And Unnecessary damage??? So jetBlue should not expand according to you just to let some terminal sit empty right next to them for ever. It is a waste of space and money to just let it sit there.

Thanks a lot for all the info. I'm trying to remember on what airline I used to fly into Terminal 5. I think it was either Swissair or KLM or both...

Yeah, that's what they are going to do. The main part of the terminal is going to be preserved. They are just demolishing the airside areas (where the gates are) and will build a new terminal in its place.

In another thread on here, someone posted the rendering of what it'll look like. It should look very nice I think.

Maybe you could have just a little more respect. Just because its not something that "fits" JetBlue's image, it's still got alot of historical and sentimental value to alot of people. For JB to be so brash about how they wish they could "throw it down", thats just plane tacky.

Im glad theyre being made to preserve even part of it. That terminal was, and could again be a beautiful place with the right treatment.
