Ryanair as mentioned does not operate hubs perse. Instead they have multiple "bases" / focus cities.

They curently operate 14; Stansted, Glasgow, Dublin, Liverpool, Cork, Shannon, Luton, Beauvais, Stockholm Skavsta, Frankfurt Hahn, Milan Bergamo, Rome Ciampino, Barcelona Girona, and Pisa.
A 15th base at East Midlands is scheduled to be launched in early 2006.

All that could be added to post 2 is that London Stansted (STN) is by far FR's biggest and busiest base / quasi-hub, and also that the Scottish airport they serve best is Glasgow Prestwick (PIK), a smallish if growing airport (with a sh**ty runway!) in Ayrshire, and not Glasgow International (GLA), which is much closer to town.

There are still plans to make Lübeck (LBC, or Hamburg-Lübeck as they call it) a base. They and airport operator Infratil are still in dispute with local authorities. It was announced before Pisa and Cork and would have been the 13th base. Currently, there are FR flights from Lübeck to Bergamo, Pisa, Stansted, Glasgow/Prestwick and Shannon. I would like to see LBC - EIN too but that route mght be too short.

Air Exel used to operate EIN-HAM on Embraer EMB-120 Brasilia aircraft, seating 30 passengers. Due to Philips- and related-traffic, this did work. However, I do not see them filling 189 passengers a day: both are not real touristic attractions and when you avoid peak hours you can drive from Eindhoven to Hamburg in 5 hours (without tolls), so VFR-traffic will not be too high either.

From Eindhoven, I suppose that expansion will be mostly aimed at tourist destinations for the Dutch (Italy & Spain) and perhaps one or two polish destionations - as the Dutch will issue work permits for all EU-citizens starting year, we will likely see an increase of people from poland, the baltics, hungary, etc., that will increase traffic.

My guess list for EIN:

- Venice/Treviso
- Some other Italian destionation
- One or two of Murcia / Granada / Sevilla / Jerez / Seville
- Krakow (or Rzeszow)
- Stockholm/Skavsta

Another airport that are 'hot' for a base is NRN (Dusseldorf Weeze), however, I might think that once Eindhoven is a base, NRN might be too close (1:15 drive between both airports) to start a base from too.

Apart from this, it is just guessing  Smile

Perhaps there may be a potential as there is no low cost route betweent northern Germany and the Netherlands. As you said, Joost, it may be too short and the car may be an alternative. However, this is related to high costs (car rental, fuel, etc.). Perhaps Air Berlin, which is expanding in AMS, may launch AMS-HAM. But until now, we only have LH and KL, both with return fares of far above 200 EUR (with some special exceptions as for example LH's current 99 EUR offer excluding ticket service charge). So I normally use FR and U2 via STN when I travel to the Netherlands.

In a long-term I also see Balaton for EIN, if STN-SOB develops well. That is also a nice but still quite unknown holiday destinations.

An idea (also a guess) for a new hub would be a polish airport as Ryanair is focusing on this country, perhaps Lodz, Krakow or Rzeszow. And BTW, does anybody know why Ryanair doe not have any flights to Greece?

Air Berlin indeed already suggested once to open AMS-HAM, but also they said that maybe the driving distance would be too short. I see a AMS-HAM happen easier, also because Amsterdam has a huge potential for both tourists as price-concious business passengers.

I wonder wheter Wizzair is interested in Poland/Hungary-EIN too. Both airlines seem to me to strengthen each other, by serving the same regional airports, putting them on the map.
