Good Afternoon Everyone!

I've never flown into JFK before and I have a question regarding customs/terminals etc. I arrive on an American Eagle flight from Halifax, Nova Scotia at 0725. I'm then departing on a regular AA flight to MIA (and then onto TPA) at 1000.

a) How is JFK customs at that time of the morning?
b) Will I have to change terminals?
c) How difficult will it be changing terminals?

I understand AA just moved into it's new digs @ JFK and wondered if I will encounter any of it.

Thx, JasYHZ.

At American's terminal, it should be very quiet at that time of morning...They have a 777 arriving from GRU and a 767 from EZR both at 6AM and that should be about it.

Eagle arrives at the brand new terminal 9, midfield concourse. Most of AA's Miami flights now leave from Terminal 9...But some do from Terminal 8 as well.

So if you do have to walk over to T8, it is not bad at all..I'm pretty sure the area is covered and not more than 5 minutes.

Most likely though, your flight to MIA will leave from the same concourse where your Eagle flight arrived from.

But chances are you will have enough time to take a trip around JFK on the AirTrain if you want.

Don't all transborder flights from Canada to the US preclear in Canada?

You will arrive at the new T9 midfield concourse. You deplane by stairs to a bus that will drive you over to T8 for immigration and customs.

The only Canadian Cities with pre-clearance are Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa and maybe Calgary.

Yes, YYC. Also YEG and YWG.

Also, I googled "Halifax preclearance" and found an article from December, 2004 saying that Halifax anticipated having a preclearance facility built in 18 months. So...about June 2006.

There you go. So you'll probably have to walk back to T9 for your MIA flight. Again, it isn't a bad walk.

JFK customs can be a real treat at times.

Personally, I find EWRs customs a tad more pleasant, but it could be the timing.

We can agree to disagree.

Terminal 8's customs building isn't going to win any prizes (except in the negative category) for aesthetics, but the lines shouldn't be too long.
