You are correct. I believe JL did as well. Again this poises the 747-8 as a possibility with the shared engines...

The 748 might also be the reason some airlines held off on choosing engines. Boeing said to them "we are planning the 748 to use GEnex exclusively, so before you commit, you may want to consider total fleet costs in the future." Or something to that effect.
