Today MKE passed the 7,000,000 passenger mark. Last year they had 6,000,000 passengers pass through their gates. I think that this is a nice little gain.
I just wonder how many of these people came up from the ORD area.
And if we might see a international departure once or twice a week from MKE.

That is a nice increase. I wonder how much of this was because of the construction on the highways through Chicago. I went through a few times this past year going to Milwaukee and the traffic was horrible. I would assume if you lived on the north side that it would be easier to start your trip in MKE instead of ORD.

Nice job. I miss flying out of Mitchell. Easy access and always friendly staff. I think they are going through there to shop the old bookstore in the main terminal. I also went a little early for my flight home to browse for some hidden gem.

Way to go MKE! Now all we need is more gates and some new airlines to continue this steady passenger increase ( B6 and WN?). A little bit off topic, but does anybody know the status of the Concourse C renovation? When will it be completed? As far as international service I would love MKE-LHR, MKE-MBJ (scheduled), MKE-FRA, and MKE-YVR or YUL. I think some of those could actually work, but I know they will never happen.

How does MKE's almost yearly total of 7 million compare with other midwest cities such as CMH, IND, BNA, MCI, and OMA?

It should probably read "YX has reached 7,000,000." Congrats MKE, YX and all other airlines....nice to see a positive trend; especially today!

these passenger records just keep piling up here in MKE......as for the concourse C renovation, they are renovating the last 2 gates areas(26 & 27), so i suspect that after that is done they will start working on the hammerhead and then maybe even US airways and america west will move over to C.........as for international service, I was always have been hoping for a couple weekly flights from mexico city viva mexicana or aero mexico and maybe some more routes to canada as well

Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

Are we not including Canada as international ?

Air Canada and Jazz CRJs to Toronto.

...and one of the last airlines operating Do 328Jets ... Midwest Express.

Also the odd Pace B757 charter from Cancun, San Juan etc.

I was referring to Europe and Asia possibly Great Britan.

It is alot easier. We also have a Amtrak station just west of MKE to lure up the ORD travellers.

MKE will never see more than the regular service to YYZ. We simply don't have the connections or stability for long range international service. Even though MKE pax counts have been steadily increasing for years. I hope this helps us secure more grants to improve the airport.

Sky if they market to ORD market properly they just might be able to make a long range international flight work down the road. If the high speed rail that they are proposing would continue down to ORD that would be a huge bonus.
One big thing MKE has is lack of congestion and flight delays. While I agree it probably wont happen we can only dream. Virgin 744 now that would be sweet oh well alarm just went off time to stop dreaming.
Merry Christmas to all,

MKE is just another OHareitis airport, lets face it...the influence is so big there is no way this can happen...and if it HYPOTHETICALLY happened, LH would be there before BA.VS couldnt even hold 742s and 744s to ORD, too much ompetition on that from UA/BA/AA.

My good guess is that only people from the FAR north suburbs like Evanston maybe have it easier. Certainly no one in the NW near N suburbs because to get from the I-290/I-90 interchange you HAVE TO GO to ORD to hit the I-294/I-94 to MKE...no one wants to cut across by DuPage county airport or go up 53...and then cut across.

You need to catch up on your Chicago geography, and i know youre from there, Evanston is the first thing north of the city of Chicago. I however, am from Deerfield, and MKE and MDW are the same distance from me, and i would take MKE over MDW anyday, actually i used MKE for the first time this summer, on a flight to Appelton, i know like i drove 1/3 of the way, but still...hah... ORD is still most convenient unless you start getting way past Gurnee.

Lets face it there is a certain level of comfort with using an airport like MKE. It isn't a massive zoo. International arrivals would certainly be nicer than the cattle call that is international arrivals at ORD. I have flown internationa and arrive at ORD. It isn't pleastant. Just too darn big. I can't imagine having to drag kids through that mess.

Are the numbers of charter flights up this year compared to previous years? Just curious....

MKE is a great little airport- though the bag claim area leaves something to be desired. My family home is equidistant between Green Bay and MKE and in the summers we would sometimes fly in "up north"... I never liked it that much. Now I can fly in and the fam can either cruise by watching for me or I hop on one of the shuttles going north. For as an out of the way place as Kohler/Sheboygan is its actually extremely easy and unstressful due to MKE. Now those summers when we flew into ORD... thats another story!  Smile

I think they are higher than last year......both funjet and USA3000 are going to be starting a lot of their charter flights right after christmas, though I'm not sure how many flights Apple vacations is going to be flying
