Ok, this is my friend's trip report (i'll write it as best as I remember)

CO1492 SJC-IAH (12JUN):
OK flight, served cheese and crackers on a 4 hour flight. Boeing 737.

Loved the B777! Almost missed the flight because of the short connection time (31 minutes) between the arrival of CO1492 and departure of CO4, and they were on opposite ends of the terminal. After a lot of running, the gate door almost closed on them, but were able to get on the flight. My friend got a window seat, looked outside and saw a Finnair MD-11 (very unusual). The meal was great, mashed potatoes, gravy, chicken, etc. The PTV's in Economy were great, with a little remote control and everything.

Got to the airport, checked in, then at the gate found out that 60 people needed to be taken off the boarding list as there was an equipment change. Opted to stay and extra day and got a stay in the London Hilton in exchange, as well as $48 in vouchers for food, drinks, etc.

Checked in OK (or so they thought, read CO1532/1753) Smooth flight, everything normal.

CO1532/1753 IAH-SJO/SJC (27JUN-28JUN):
Got off the plane, waited for a bit, until boarding the flight to San Jose, when sister realized she had lost one of her bags, after finding it, they went back to find (in horror) that they were about to board a flight to San Jose, Costa Rica. They visited many ticket agents and showed them their boarding passes (they were on standby, so the tickets had been taken away from them in LGW) and they said, "no, it says here you are going to San Jose, Costa Rica," while they counter-argued "No, we're going to San Jose, CALIFORNIA." Then a copy of the itinerary was pulled out, and the ticket agent's attitude suddenly changed. "Oh." OK, let's see what we can do. So for 8 hours they were stuck at IAH until they were finally able to get a flight back to SJC. Arrived home early morning June 28th.

Seems that the ticket agent in London - Gatwick mistook the city on their tickets, and put them through to San Jose, Costa Rica. Had my friends gotten on the plane they would have found themselves in Costa Rica, and probably would have been sent on the next flight back when the error was found. Thanks to a lost bag, that was averted

What type of equipment change occured at LGW on your friends homeward LGW-IAH? I assume that the aircraft was supposed to be a 777-224ER but was changed to either a 767 or DC-10?

A Finnair MD-11 on the ground in Houston? What would that be doing here....can you verify that this, of all planes, was what was seen? I find that one hard to believe, might there be some mistake?

A Finnair MD-11 here at IAH is highly unlikey. It could have been Continental DC10 or a Charter L1011 of ATA. I have no explanation why a Finnair bird woul be down here in TX.

well, i'll try and ask my friend as soon as i can (she's at work now) to find out those details, i didn't think to ask her at first... but I asked Finnair and she said yea, so i'm not sure... but I'll also ask my Finnair mechanic friend (Antti maybe you caught this thread?) he might know as well.
