Just coming through via Bloomberg

By Vicki Kwong
Dec. 16 (Bloomberg) -- CR Airways Ltd., a Hong Kong-based private airline, said it's poised to place an order for Boeing Co.'s aircraft, expanding its fleet to fly to China as the nation's demand for air travel rises.

CR Airways said it will sign an agreement on Dec. 20 for Boeing's 787 and 737 800 aircraft, according to an e-mail sent to Bloomberg, without saying if the order is a purchase or a lease.

The airline's spokeswoman Angela Li declined to say how many planes CR Airways may order. Boeing's Hong Kong-based spokesman Mark Hooper didn't respond to two calls to his cellular phone.

Have I got this right?

These guys are going from 2 CRJ-200s, 1 CRJ-700 & 1 604 Challenger to 738s and 787s?  Wow!

Guess it helps if you have Hainan Air looking to invest 60% into the company.

CR, Viva Macau, Air Bangkok, Yemania and the list goes on as a new name is added each week. Now I can understand statement's from earlier in the year why Boeing was talking about 600 to 800 proposal's with carriers.

CR do not have a CL604 but they do have a 2nd CRJ700 on the way.

The important thing you may not know is Hainan are buying into them or taking them over, this is why they are getting the 738's. I understand they will be leasing some from Hainan soon.

Hainan wanted to start a Hong Kong airline but could not get a licence to do so, buying into CR Airways solved their problem. Before this news CR Airways seemed to be doing very badly with three aircraft spending most of the time on the ground!

CR 787's...... well that will be something!

Thank you for the correction N754PR I was unaware of the second CRJ700, did they ever have a CL604?

The info on Hainan I noted and that is a good way to start up a HK based carrier. Apparently HNA Group, owner of Hainan wish to invest in CR Air by buying 60% according to the report I have read. Perhaps that will help their airplanes spend more time in the air!!

Well, if this report is correct, December 20th we know. Please keep us informed if you hear any more information. This after the Viva Macau report has really got me interested.

I agree!

Do CR plan to use the 787's on regional routes within Asia, or use them on routes to places such as the US, Europe, Middle East and Oceana?

Sorry but maybe someone can elighten me a bit on its history.

When I was in the Philippines booking a flight to Hong Kong, the travel agent referred to them as China Rich Airways. May be something to do with the fact that the CR is what you ask for when you need to relieve yourself in the Philippines, (comfort room).
I ended up taking Tiger Airways to Macau, then taking the ferry to Hong Kong, as it fit my schedule better.
CR Airways has 3 flights a week to CRK (the old Clark AB near Manila) from HKG.

The website has some history on the airline.

This one might end up being a no-go! The Hainan Airline deal might very well mean that CR looses all its route rights - as reported this morning in South China Morning Post. The article seems rather negative (What a shame as Dragon Air and CX could need som competition).

Aaaah, that's a few more than I expected. I wonder whether these will be all for firm order's or a mixture of firm and options. Taking on Cathay and Dragonair will be a hard task, not to mention all the Mainland carriers which service HK as well.

Then they need to think about Viva Macau as well, at least they appear to be getting set up so as not to compete with Air Macau but rather take over rights which the former is not using.

It will be interesting to see what tomorrow's announcement brings.
