If memory serves, HP at one time had a small hub or 'focus city' at CMH. Checking the DB, I see few photos (9 as a matter of fact) of any HP activity at CMH. So, I am curious as to why if CMH is not a major focus city in HP's route map, why keep the 'City of Columbus'? Now don't misunderstand, I love this plane, it is certainly one of the more eye catching liveries around and the fact that it is based on Ohio's unique state flag (definitely the most unusual US state flag design to date) makes it even more interesting. I have no desire to see the 'City Of Columbus' disappear from the US airports that it graces (including my hometown airport, IAH). However just from a $$$$$ standpoint, it seems like an expensive venture to keep these colors flying representing a city/state where it has little presence.

If I made any incorrect statements, I am sure that you will let me know in no uncertain terms.

Well, they painted it, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to repaint it just for the sake of repainting over the flag design.

I'm guessing the colors will disappear when the plane goes in for its next paint job, to get the new US livery.  Sad

USAir A321 service now departing for SFO with fuel stops in CAK, COS and RNO. Enjoy your flight.

I'm nearly certain that it'll be getting repainted into standard US colors, along with the rest of the theme planes.

As for why it hasn't been repainted yet into standard HP colors? This is strictly a guess, and the HP people could probably tell you for sure, but I'd guess that it hasn't needed a heavy maintenance check yet since the hub closed, so it hasn't needed to be repainted. In that scenario, actually painting it into the regular HP livery would cost more money, so they'd just leave it be.

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

I think it has been painted back to the HP norm for a long time. I am almost sure I have seen N905AW not painted in the Ohio flag.

Still in Ohio paint, like previously mentioned, she'll get a coat of the new US paint in 2006.

They had a small hub, with about 8 or 9 gates. It was made up of mostly RJ flights to the East Coast, DFW, MDW & for a short time, ATL. They had a few mainline flights too out of CMH, to RSW, MCO, TPA(?), DCA, LAX, LAS & PHX. After the hub closed, they only used two of their original gates & US picked up four of the empty ones recently.

Don't forget it was mostly mainline at first...with 737s/320s flying to BWI, MDW, MKE, etc. They also added in Mesa B19s flying to places like TOL, CAK, FNT, IND, etc.

One of my favorite HP planes. I am sad to hear that they will all be painted over.

HP had rather ambitious plans that were sidetracked post 9/11 (or maybe even the dot bomb crash earlier in 2001). I remember reading their in-flight magazine in July 2000 while on an HP flight. There were many "up and coming" routes from Columbus, and the fleet section showed that A318's would soon be joining the fleet...there were almost as many route lines from CMH as LAS.

CMH would have been #3 after

Not true. I shot this pic about three weeks ago while I was waiting for a PHX-LAX flight.

The Ohio plane is my favorite.

Remember they also use to use the 737-200 from Phx through CMH to LGA.
