For those interested Tiger Airways made its first flight from Singapore to Darwin today, there is a link to a small story below.

I think Jetstarasia and Jetstar should fly to Darwin and connect to each other's flights. A convienient one-stop SYD-SIN service on a low fare airline!  Smile cool

I agree with that.  Smile

I think there was a bit of a missed opportunity for someone to make Darwin a small hub to the nearer Indonesian islands - Irian Jaya, Borneo and maybe the smaller cities of Java.

cheers

that is great news.. a LCC connection to AU from Sin.
i actually just bought my first ticket on Tiger: Danang (DAD) to SIN for $1 !!!!
It is also a new flight starting in JAN and i think the only one connecting that city in Vietnam nonstop to SIN. I hope they dont cancel on me!

Royal Brunei must be sweating with this new service.

Never understood why the SIA DRW service wasn't transferred to Silk Air.

Did SIA fly to DRW?

Yes but not on the same airline. You have to fly DJ to DRW and Tiger to SIN however I am not sure if the flight times would connect that well with each other.......

Why do you say this? Bandar seri Begwan is not exactly *en-route* from SIN to DRW plus Royal Brunei would still have some traffic to places like PVG e.t.c. Also, will the flight times of this new service connect to onward asian destinations?????

Tiger airways is a pain in the but to deal with. Royal Brunei will still do quite well out of this as tiger airways offers no connecting service, and while there may be a small market for SIN services the main market in the connections to MNL and SGN.

It will be interesting to see how this works out. DRWites have filled the plane ex DRW because its the cheapest fare available out of DRW and its something different. But the first SINDRW service only had 100 seats filled and they were on sale for 1SGD a seat (plus taxes).

To add to this QF have dropped their fares (they would do it after iv booked my tiger seats GRRR) to around 400AUD inc apprx taxes.

Travel agents up here have shunned the carrier, there is no way we can get info on it. If you have a problem or question etc you have to send a LETTER to Singapore, not even a email address. If you ring the call centre with a question you will be told " we only do booking" and then you will be hung up on.

It will be interesting to see how it goes with 4x weekly flights if they cant fill their plane from the SIN side with 1$ airfares.

Its a bit of a shame really, rumour was that MH was ready to announce their re-entry around the same time with with MH ppls up here sussing out staff etc. Cant see that happening with TR here.

Dont get me wrong i love the cheap airfares but most of the traffic connects in SIN to go else where, we would have been much better off with MI or Valuair.

Oh well Good Luck tiger.

a pain to deal with locally (land services) or when flying with them (checkin/onboard/ect)?

SQ flew to DRW from 1988 to 1998, initially 2x/week A310 turnaround, then 1x/week SIN-DRW-BNE on the B743 and then 1x/week A310 SIN-DRW-CNS. They lost a lot of $$ on the route.

SilkAir looked at DRW, but decided against it because it would be difficult to break even. The N.T. gov't tried very hard to get SilkAir there, though.
