Seems the decision to offer the A318 as a CJ is paying off for Airbus and the A318 line.

01:32 21Dec2005 RNS-Airbus wins 5 firm orders for A318 Elite plane

PARIS, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Airbus has won five firm orders from an undisclosed multinational corporation for its A318 Elite aircraft, the company said on Tuesday.
The company said the latest orders meant sales of the A318 planes nowmtotalled 13 aircraft plus eight options.

No reply to an Airbus topic..... how odd.

Anyway great news for Airbus but please confirm 13 A318CJ's as I'm sure there are more than 13 A318's sold.

You're correct N754PR it is odd that it took awhile for a reply. The 13 sales they refer to are for the A318CJ + 5 Options. Don't have the data at work but total A318 sales, inclusive of Elites, should be getting to somewhere between 90 - 100 frames by now.

Very good news for Airbus. I look forward to seeing these good looking planes flying around....very cute indeed.

As for replies....of course no-one will reply unless it is to say something negative about Airbus.

Hooray for Airbus! They'll need the income from the A318 Elites to offset the losses they are making on the A380 program!

Now, do you feel better?  Smile

In any regard, congrats to Airbus. I'm sure the A318 Elite is an amazing aircraft, and would love to get a ride in one.

Its great to see how sucesseful the A318 has become in 2005. Lets just hope that this trend will continue into the future.

It seems so. Many members on this forum are constantly criticizing the A318. The orders that the A318 has managed to capture this years suggest the opposite. Its seems to be doing quite well.

By the way does anyone have any information as to which power plant will be equipping these latest orders? CFM or PW?

A318 orders for 2005

Iberia 10
LAN 15
Air France 3
Undisclosed 5 A318Elite
Comlux 5 A318Elite + (3 options)
NAS 5 A318Elite + (5 options)

Total: 41

Not bad for the BabyBus.

This I hear continually on this forum, yet I've seen nothing anywhere else. Do you have a link please Wings? Also, we've missed one here, ILFC have cancelled 5 of their A318 orders, this appeared on the November update of the Airbus orders total.

IMHO, the reason why A318CJ sales are so good is that CJ Customers usually pay full list price. More $$$ for the OEM.

It's nice to see one of the big two manufacturers getting back into the regional game. I haven't been able to find anything about the Elite model on my usual sources. Does anyone know how it has been improved over previous the A318?

Surely the first A380CJ will be bough by the Sultan of Brunei , who declared at the last Santiago show , that he will buy one to replace the 744.
The others to follow would be Bahrein , Qatar , Oman ...........always the same .......

Well apart from its luxurious interior it will also have extra fuel tanks to travel about 7500 km (London-New York nonstop).
The A318 Elite is a business jet based on the A318 and not a regional aircraft if you meant that by "the regional game".

It will forever be a McDonnell Douglas MD 80 , Boeing MD 80 sounds so wrong

It seems that I was able to answer my own question. According to Flight International all 5 A318Elite will be delivered with CFM powerplant.

And Airbus has also disclosed an order for five additional examples of the A318 Elite, the executive version of the manufacturer’s baseline A318 twin-jet, but is not revealing the customer’s identity.

All five aircraft will be powered by CFM International CFM56 engines and be outfitted by maintenance company Lufthansa Technik.

Currently the extra fuel tanks are only in the thinking, so who knows when they will be ready.

From what I keep on reading (Flight, Flug Revue etc) an "A380CJ" will probably be in the colours of an airline so it isn't as obvious... Perhaps in the 43 order from Emirates...  Big grin
