So I finally caved and paid $25 to post here so sorry if this is something that has been rehashed.

I have two questions about the Airbus Orders and Deliveries spreadsheet.
1) Aerolineas Argentinas have had 6 A340-600s on order for a long time. When are these to be delivered? Are they deferred or what's the deal?
2) NW is listed as having 40 orders for A330s. NW maintains it has 32 on order (the original 24, then 8 exercised options) and that just seems to be accepted. But Airbus did at one point change the NW order from 24 to 32 awhile back before NW announced it would exercise any options. Could this possibly imply that NW has already decided on exercising 8 more options, or is this something screwy no one bothered to revise?

To the best of my knowledge, they are deferred (cancelled?) and most likely not to be delivered.

NW & PW have both confirmed 32. Refer to this A.net thread for further details of this but to the best of my knowledge NW have 32 on order, whilst Airbus list 40.

The Airbus spreadsheet can, on occassion, take quite sometime to be amended to reflect changes in orders. I believe that to be the case with these 2 orders.

Northwest ordered 10 A330 on 10.02.89, then 6 more on 31.05.89, total 16.
In December 2000, Northwest ordered an additional 24 A330-300, total 40. Airbus issued then the statement that these orders did not replace the previous ones which "remain outstanding but are cancelable by Northwest".
Nice wording.
In December 2002, Northwest cancelled 4 orders, total 36 and cancelled another 4 in January 2003, total 32.
On 21.01.05, Northwest ordered 2 A330-200 and 6 A330-300, total 40 again.
Since some of the original orders have not been formally cancelled by Northwest, Airbus is still entitled to list a total of 40 A330 on order.

IIRC, I think when NW filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on 16 Oct. 2005, the 8 A-330s ordered in Jan. 05 were officially cancelled by, both NW and the BK Court. So, that brings the total NW A-330 order back to 32.

But, since Airbus says some of the original A-330-200s ordered were not cancelled, they also have not been built. I would also assume that Airbus never ordered the long lead items needed, either. That tells me that either Airbus knows these airplanes were cancelled, or they knew that NW never really wanted them.

Just what does listing an order that you don't really have, as an order, accomplish?

That is what has made the NW A330 order so hard to determine. As they are in CH11, with Court approval for the remaining 14 A330's, they can't buy any more than 32, unless the Court approves it.

Actually, only 7 A330/A340 assembly numbers have not been used so far (c/n 92, 105, 108, 124 (all 1995), 130 (1996), 298 (1999) and 613 (2004). The first 4 may be linked to Northwest, but I have no proof of that.

To make the Northwest's saga a bit more complicated, remember that this airline ordered 20 A340 on 31.05.89 and added 4 more on 31.05.91.
All of it was cancelled on 08.12.92 together with a bunch of A320s.

Northwest's live has been full of ups and downs.
