I am flying out of MAD on Thursday to return home after about 4 months on studying in Spain, (which has been great). One of my friends, she leaves tomorrow, the family she is staying with told her that there was going to be a airport strike on Thursday and some flights might not be leaving.
Has anyone else heard about this happening or is this just a rumor?

I hate posting a rumor but considering I am flying that day, I would like to know if its true.

This is the first notice that I have. Here in Barcelona don´t know anything. Any airline or sindicate has told anything about strike.

Tomorrow I will take the Puente Aereo and I'll see.

Regards and have a nice flight.

Leaving from OSL to ALC tomorrow morning, so if it's just MAD, then it's okay.  Wink

But then, if there's a strike on the horizon. it usually isn't just one airport, it will affect more.

Who is threatening a strike, and why, Reins?

Some Iberia unions in Madrid, Barcelona and the Canary Islands have announced a strike every Thursday from Dec. 22nd between 1300 and 1600. They are protesting against the proposal of Iberia's management of a new collective agreement that will severely worsen the working conditions and pay of new workers and also will freeze salaries for all Iberia's employees during the next 3 or 4 years.

Not many disruptions expected. The two biggest unions will not support the strike.

Fermarta, thanks for the answer.

Luckily my flight is at 1155 so there should not be a issue.
