IB will start 5 weekly frequencies from MAD to ATH from January.

The flights will operate Monday to Thursday and Saturdays departing MAD at 11:35 and returning from ATH at 18:25.

I hope to see some new routes this year.

Regarding opening of new routes I would like to remind how IB was criticized for not opening the China route, some people on this forum even accused its management of being too conservative and how smart UX were to take up this opportunity.

Time seems to put everyone in its place, UX are reducing their china operations after it failed to meet their expectations. "Just what the IB people said would happen".

These are my principles but if you don't like them I have others

good news, a question is ATH a new IB destination or is it already served from BCN?

well I think IB had be done much more better than UX on the China routes due two points.

1. The big LatinAmerica Network = many or some conecting passengers.
2. The big European Network = many conecting passengers even if spain is not the direct way from germany, italy or other middle-european countrys but with good fares ....

Obviously, if IB were really too conservative, to take that opportunity shouldn't be called to be too smart. But it could be an (UX) strategy to start stronger not to lose opportunities and not to let share that market so easily, and then to readjust according to the market, (readjust that could be seasonal, according to what I have read).

And possibly, if UX (for instance) was the only airline with permissions to fly the route (like Iberia was some months ago) perhaps they could have filled easier their planes. The problems an airline like UX can have in a route where they have competition are normally more than the reasons that could have made IB leave the possibility of that route when they were the only airline to fly it.

And about the MAD-ATH opening, I am also glad that they do it, and especially if they go on opening others. But this one in particular I would not consider it a step away from conservativeness since it seems a natural reaction to the Olympic Airways breakdown.
