I assume you're talking about DFW terminal D. I don't know for sure, but my guess is that aircraft that arrive from an international destination park in D every time. Those aircraft often will do a domestic trip before heading back out internationally again, so instead of towing the plane to another terminal, they just operate the flight out of D.

And vice versa -- it's all about aircraft positioning, and the fact that there aren't enough international ops at DFW to fill all the gates. Given how precious gate space is at the other terminals, it makes no sense to leave gates at D empty simply because it is an "international" terminal.
