What Is UP At Air Wisconsin

Pilots leaving, FA's leaving, flights not going....whats up at ZW? Air Wisconsin is one of the best regionals to work for. FA's have higher per diem, better work rules (if a flight cxlns they still get paid - unlike Mesa)...life at ZW is good, besides commuting. So why are we having such a huge turn over??

Midwesterners in PHL, and having to commute. Gets old.

Well, it might have something to do with that fact that DEN, ATW, ORD, and IAD are closing. Rumor has it that DCA won't last too long. PHL is a disaster of an airport to work out of and ORF is a commuters nightmare. As a result, all these folks are having to relocate from the midwest and west to the east coast or deal with miserable commutes. Lets not forget that many of them already rearranged their lives when ATL was a domicile a year or two ago. The United operation is hanging on by a thread and is now plagued by aircraft shortages. Their UA completion factor is in the toilet, at least at IAD. Is it really worth commuting cross-country to fly a CRJ up and down a delay-plagued east coast? Probably not when you can fly a 717, 73G, or 320 at any number of carriers that are hiring pilots and flight attendants like crazy.

All the BAe-146 maintenance is being done in Milwaulkee I believe. Right behind our hangar at ATW is still a BAe-146 graveyard. Kinda sad...

Pilots leaving

Hey Ryan-

They can hire me! lol I'd be happy to relocate and be a pilot. How are things going for you?

We know for you it's not just a seat on a flight to a place. It's a seat on a flight to your life.

well here in MKE there is a hanger for ZW and it still is titled for "united Express", but last time i was in MKE I think i mmighta seen some US express jets parked there.....not like in the past when in the morning you would see one UA crj after another heading from the hanger to the gate
(maybe its time for mainline UA flights to MKE eh? scratchchin  Wink

Will you watch the Cleveland Browns and the Detroit Lions on Sunday? Only if coach Eric Mangini resigned after a loss.

We can only hope. Ted to Las would be a hit. Other than that I cannot see them putting mainline on here in MKE. Although the few times I have flown through DEN on the miserably cramped CRJ the plane was full.

1. Per Diem and work rules don't matter if you are never at home. The schedules are terrible. Many uncommutable on both ends and sometimes a 2-day followed by a 3-day, all of it uncommutable.

2. Complete lack of communication by the company. Their attitude is, "Hey, they can be happy to have jobs".

3. Very little plan for the future. They clearly did not plan well for this transition. What makes you think they are planning for the next thing? I think that in ATW they are so insulated from what is going on that they are unaware of most of the problems except now they slowly are starting to see bad statistics.

Air Wisconsin has suddenly gone from being the best contract airline to being a place to avoid. I am very loyal and even I am putting out feelers at other employers. The situation has gotten ridiculous.

As far as I am concerned, they have demonstrated that they are not able to operate in the airline world. They got fat and comfortable with United. The next couple months will be critical. I truly think we will have to reduce the aircraft usage in order to make this work. That is never a good thing.

I just finished my second-last reserve days in DCA. I sat for the last 3 days without getting used. And yet flights are being cancelled for lack of crews. We are also desperately short of mechanics.

It is my opinion that they expected everyone to just move along with this transition to the east coast and now, unexpectedly, people are leaving in droves.

Looks like the corporate-types planned a great and wonderful transition for the company... but forgot to include the employees.

USAir A321 service now departing for SFO with fuel stops in CAK, COS and RNO. Enjoy your flight.

BINGO!! That's exactly it. They seem to have forgotten that it is humans who work in the field every day. Employees who feel like they have the support of the company will bend over backwards for the company, but ZW is not saying a word to the employees.

I do think people in ATW planned for this but even the best laid out plan can fall through. I know we are trying to get people hired, trained, and on line. I do think the big issue is the commuting, if lines were more commutable people wouldn't be leaving in droves.

jetBlue - how the heck are ya? I'm in PHL now....commuting just like everyone else!

Do you have any tail numbers from this graveyard?? I'm still needing one 146 to complete my fleet and I'm wondering if it's worth doing an ORD/MKE/ATW trip to get it.

Can't remember offhand which one but I think it's 614.
