Hi everybody, two days ago I booked a flight from TRD to HNL r/t

I will be flying TRD-AMS-IAH-LAX-HNL-EWR-OSL-TRD and the price was 9816,- NOK (APX USD 1300,-) witch I think is a good price. KL on TRD-AMS, SK on OSL-TRD, all others are CO.

The AMS-LAX flight only came up as 1 stop, it turns out it is also a Change of equipment in IAH, therefore I have some Q's:

- Will I need to check in the luggage again, or at least go through customs with it and then drop it off?

- How is immigration in IAH? I'm used to MIA, EWR, PHL and JFK - MIA being really bad at over 2 hrs the last time.

- I will stay overnight in LA, close to the apt. Since my luggage is already checked in and I will probably have my boarding card, how long prior to dep should I be in the apt. (dep time 9:10am)

- How is the service on these flights?

- Will I get all of my miles since this is a special price (class Q on CO flights) with my VS Flying club card?

I wish you all a merry Christmas from the northern Norway!

Best regards,

Mats

Although your luggage will be checked through to the final destination you will however need to claim it in Houston and proceed with them thru customs formalities. Immediately after the customs hall there is a drop off area for your luggage which is quick since your bags would have already been tagged to HNL so no need to wait in long lines. What gets tricky in Houston is the lines at Immigration/Border Control...you should be okay as long as flights are running on-time but if there are weather delays affecting international arrivals then lines can get backed up. The situation has gotten better since they opened the new immigration and customs facilities but it can still have its days. Remember you will need to re-clear security before you proceed to your LAX flight. Have a back-up plan in mind though just in case. Check to see if there is a later LAX departure in case you miss the flight and keep in mind that if you got stranded in Houston that night they could probably book you on one of the two Houston-Honolulu flights the following day. Since you won't be checking bags in LAX then arriving at the airport an hour prior to departure should be okay....just make sure you've already been issued a boarding pass for the flight either at the beginning of your trip or while transiting in Houston....good luck!!

Thanks Mr. Stew. Do you fly w/ CO?

I did a mistake when booking the ticket, and put in MRS, not MR - is this a problem? Have not got a reply from the travel agency yet. Used the arrows on the keyboard and not the tabulator I guess... I've already got the paper tick's... I know this makes me look stupid, but hey - it's a honest mistake, no?

How about the mileage on the VS flying club? Do I get them flying Q class?

I hear you RAMPRAT980. The worst I had was going from HAV-MIA back in '03. Not to many people in here has flown nonstop from HAV-MIA on CO I would think. This was a charter - costing close to US $700 r/t with the special taxes for a 45 min flight Smile Paying half that now for a half way round the world ticket r/t... Been sitting an hour now finding the best seats. Will try and get them in to the ticket when I'm in TRD next week.

Anybody got an idea about the "gender" problem. Do they just put a note into Amadeus?

Eighteen hours from Amsterdam to Los Angeles - my goodness! How much of this is on the ground at Houston! Good luck, and I hope you can sleep on planes, in queues, in uncomfortable airport chairs ...

ANother - I hear Switzerland is a beautiful as Norway. I doubt it  Smile Ich libe Norwegen. I will see your contry, and I invete you all to mine.

Yea, It's over 41 hrs going there and over 38 going back... But I have booked a Motel at LAX (Traveloge) and then I will sleep at my cousin house close to OSL going back. 7 hrs in EWR - should have time for a short trip to NYC. I have a hard time sleeping on aircrafts and in apt's. Going there it's all day flights, but going back it's night flights so I should be able to get a few minutes of sleep...

Once again - marry Christmas,

Mats

Houston's immigration is pretty fast [IF you are a US citizen] but man if you arrive when all the central american flights arrive, its chaos... for the non USers that is.

I'm a Norwegian citizen, what time does most South American flights arrive? I arrive at 17:35 local time (5:35pm) and depart for LAX at 21:05 (9:05pm).
How is immigration at this time? This is my 9th enterace to the US, and I used to have a living/working VISA - also I'm already in the electronic system with a picthure so it should go fast trough the booth with me - no?

At those scheduled times, Immigration and Customs delays should be quite minimal. You're smart to have allowed plenty of connection time, though, just in case you're not on schedule.

I do believe it would be a good idea to correct the gender error.

Merry Christmas again.

I have spoken to my travel agent, and there is nothing to do about the gender Q. I would have to buy a new tick. They spoke to KL, CO and SK - there is no problem. They also made a note in the system, so in case someone wonders or if something happens there is no Q about me being male. That S shure made a lot of trouble for me Smile (mrS not MR on my ticket)

Anyways, not to many days until I leave - will be great. I've never been to Hawaii or Texas so that will be great to experience. I used to live in Orlando and work in Disney world for one year. When I did that I met a lot of people from around the world - so I have a pretty good idea of how it's going to be. Will be visiting an old collage of me in HI. People say traveling from London to Sydney is bad... Try TRD-HNL@41hrs  Smile

I will write you all a trip report once I'm back including photos. But first I have to fly Wideroes DH8-100 from BNN-TRD on the 30th... That's apx 45 min of joy for me. I hope you all get a chance to got to Norway and try the DH8's, and see the landscape.

Well, I'm going to have a traditional northern-Norwegian drink now called Karsk. (coffee an moonshine (homemadespirits)) beefore we have ribs for dinner Smile

God jul,

Mats
