C-series On AC?

Whats the chance of AC placing orders for Bombardiers new C series to replace A319 and or 320s or add another new regional jet to the fleet of EMB175s and 190s and still keep all the narrow body airbus fleets? I would love to see the new C series in AC fleet. Lets say they want to order 24 and have options for another 24. Who knows if Bombardier does build the new jet maybe AC can wait for few more years before they decide to place an order from them if BBD can get a luanch customer and more orders.

comments would be appreciate please.

Interesting question. If I were to take a guess,I would have to say it's very unlikely! I think the current and the future fleets acquisitions that have been announced are what will be the fleet for many,many years to come. You're more likely to see the Q400 Dash join the fleet than you would the C-series. It's too bad though,as I think it would have been an interesting aircraft,but not with the E195 and A318 squeezing from both ends. It would make more sense for AC to order those types than to introduce another type into the fleet. Bombardier should have had the foresight to take over the FD70 project when it got into trouble. That aircraft had a family that could have matched the Embraer product line of E70,E75,E90 and E95's. It's too late now and I'll never know why the decided against continuing the Fairchild-Dornier project,as the C-series aircraft images look a bit like the failed FD70 pictures that can be found on the internet. If anyone can explain why they made that decision,I would appreciate your comments.

I also agree it would be an interesting choice, especially if AC was the launch customer.

Last I checked, they don't fly the E195 either! I think he was comparing the E195 and 318 to the C-Series since they're in the same general size category.

FYI, FD really had only two basic models... the 728 and the 928. There were "sketches" made of a shortened 728, the 528... while they also made "sketches" of a stretched 328, the 428.

To put it simply, Bombardier is very risk averse (with their own money.) There were 3 basic reasons why "they made that decision:" 1) In feigning interest in the 728/928 programme, and then walking away, BBD eliminated a competitor to its 700 & 900. An eventual and small successful measure of that strategy is that they did pick up an order for 12 900s this month from LH; 2) If they had gone forward with an FD deal, BBD would have had to pump at least another $1-billion (yes, billion) into the program to get both the 728 and 928 airborne (while taking away sales from the 700 and 900); and 3) BBD was at the time extremely tight for cash and couldn't afford the investment.

BTW, the FD deal was the second time that BBD walked away from a programme that would have "topped" up their product line.

My latest information, from sources within and orbiting around BBD, suggests that a CRJ "Next Generation" (new engines, new wings, new avionics, new cabin design, more composite materials) seems more likely to be BBD's next big project.

There are also pictures of CRJ900s in Air Nostrum (Iberia Regional) colours on the web, but BBD mentions nothing nor does Air Nostrum... Perhaps BBD are planning a big announcement surprise in January 06 with lots of orders and commitments for the CR9 while closing the C-Series case study???

When Air Nostrum signed a follow on order for CRJ200's last year (June/04) the contract allowed Air Nostrum to “convert some or all of the aircraft…including the CRJ900 and CRJ700 regional jets, or the Bombardier Q400 turboprop”, as stated by BBD in their press release.

In Oct/04 Nostrum confirmed that they expected to convert at least ten of the 20-strong CRJ200 order in favour of the CRJ900 pending scope negotiations, with deliveries stretching to 2008.

And in October/05 when BBD announced closure of the 200 line, BBD confirmed that the 19 CRJ200s currently on order by Air Nostrum would be revised to include 900s but did not specify the quantity.

There is no big project "Next Generation" CRJ being planned. It is basically only a simple single row stretch of the CRJ900 with wing root inserts.

"Wing root inserts"... does that mean that there will be a revised wing, as in larger with more lift and range?

Planemaker: thanx for being such a sport and answering thoroughly on my question in reply 6, I do appreciate that  Smile I just hope that BBD will include the Air Nostrum orders in their PDF-file sales summary soon - making it look even more impressive.

Mind you, the order book shows 350 firm orders for the -700/-900-series, total, that's not too bad...  thumbsup
