Air Madrid - How Are They?

Good morning,

I am doing some research on Air Madrid. Anybody knows exactly in what chronology they launched their routes? Which one was the first?

Same about aircraft, which one was the first in the fleet?

What is the opinion on Air Madrid in Spain? From what I read, they must have had severe delay problems at some point. Have those been overcome?

Look forward to any comments!

Hi Sven,

if I don't remember badly, the first routes were SJO, GIG, BUE and UIO. The plane used on these routes was an 332.

The opinion of the spanish people about this airline? Well,... I prefer to not to say anything. Delays, bad conditions of aircrafts and worst crew.

For catalonian people is a great airline because is the first to risk with flight from BCN to many destinations in South America. Most of these flights are via TFN.

Regards,

RAFVC10

Can you please tell me the routes from BCN via TFN to America or can you give me a site where I can find that info? I spend a lot of time at the canary islands hence the curiosity, thanks!

Air Madrid is one of those controversial airlines........I have not flown with them, but I have heard that when things are going OK, there is service and product is adequate, but when things go wrong (such as delays, tech issues, overbookings), the situtation quickly spins out of control and issues are handled very very poorly.

Hi RAFVC10, when you say planned is MVD, where do you know that from? Any other routes planned?

On their webpage they say that they offer free catering now. What was before that? Nothing at all? Pay and eat?

Cheers,

Sebastian

Hi Sven,

my sister flown to LIM from MAD this summer. The comments about her odissey to arrive to LIM were: delay of 25 hours, non free catering, bad aircrafts (many doubts??? the plane is new from Airbus no??), worst crews,...

When I said MVD, I want to say that NM is planning to compete with IB in this route. I don't know the load factors of this flight but I have so many doubts about so lucrative could this route can be when IB only flies from MAD three weekly.

BCN is planning to open new flight, too, to MVD. I cannot remember how many uruguayan people lives in BCN or near but... I give to this route three months of life!!

Will be an error if they try to compete in routes masified as SDQ (IB,UX,A7), HAV (IB,UX,CU), CCS (IB,UX,S3 and in a few months V0),...

First of open new transatlantic routes, I think they must stablish a network in Spain to connect with the BCN and MAD intercontinental flights.

I have also some questions left... Can anyone tell me the new service concept?? Air Madrid started against IB with the typical LoCo-formula, you had to buy for food&drinks! But now it seems meals are for free...

Hi Airevents

I posted a thread not that long ago about how they posted a loss for the first year of operation and I expect they will again post a loss for next year. If anyone knows anything about how their BCN operations are doing please tell us. I think Air Madrid will not last another summer.

Hi
Well here in TLC we have had some big delays too.
Since Two weeks ago delays have been of more than 5 hours and in some occasions 10 hrs .

Some fights came from UIO (somebody told me) in its way back to MAD so Passengers coming to MEX had to go to UIO first. That day was the first an A330 200 visited TLC, and this was because the A 340 went to maintenance

I keep wondering how passengers can wait in TLC airport for such a long delay. With no where to go, Nothing to Do, and with temperature dropping almost below zero all night long.

BTW in SABRE TLC MAD appears only though mar 06, nothing after that date and in the NM page nothing yet for that season.

Well, I flew with them once, and made a oath to not do it again... the flight itself wasn't too bad, although the A330-200 that I flew had its overhead screen messed up, so in the LONG flight, I couldn't watch a thing because the plane was full, so much so that they had to leave passengers, I was one of the "lucky" ones to get in.... anyways, the delays were just horrendous, about 14 hours on the departure, (didn't care too much, because I was at UIO, so I could go somewhere or sleep at home, although the delay screwed my hotel reservations and everything that was planned for my short stop in MAD, thus I lost money), but coming back from MAD, just 8 hours of waiting time in the airport, no one to tell us what is going on and you feel like cattle.... To think that the only reason why I flew with them, was because I was going with my family and UX (they codeshared back then) was the only one with open seats for all of us.... BTW, about UX, another airline who outside Spain is not worth your time or money... Their customer care is below zero, so never will I book nor fly with them.... but back to Airmadrid, the company should either quit or really do something drastic to their service.....

As far as loosing money, I don't know how they lost money last year, with all flights full, maybe because of expanding the fleet and new destinations, but with all their bad news, I would expect this year to see them flying empty, which they deserve.... however, there was an article that mentioned something that was just a big puzzle to me, I think I read it in their inflight magazine, but I can't remember for sure, anyways, the article said that they were looking into starting a Latin American base (hub) where they could reach more destinations... Has anyone heard this? Also, if they order the A350 as rumored, I don't see them going under any time soon, but on the contrary, having to put up with the worst airline of Spain.... All I can say is "Lord help us!"

Hi everyone!!

Which is the current NM's fleet? I think it's this one, please tell me if there's a plane missing:

SE-RBG Airbus A330-223 wet-leased from Novair
EC-JIS Airbus A340-312 (ex Air France F-GLZB). (PTVs in Economy!!)
EC-IYB Airbus A330-202 (ex Canada 3000 C-GGWA, ex Volare Airlines I-VLEC)
EC-IYN Airbus A330-202 (ex Canada 3000 C-GGWB, ex Volare Airlines I-VLED)
D-AIDH Airbus A310 (ex Lufthansa)
EC-JMF Airbus A330-301 (ex Air Algérie F-OMSA, ex Aer Lingus EI-SHN)

Any plane to be added in a foreseeable future.....?? Thanks for your info.

I flew this summer on one of their A332's to SJO. Service was ok, we had to pay for food in coach (not anymore now) and we had small delays. Next year, i'll have to go once again to SJO, not sure if I'll take IB's A346 or NM's A333.

NM is IATA's current code for Air Madrid, before it was used by Mount Cook Airlines.

Airliners.net has not updated this code, that's why it shows Mount Cook Airlines when you put the mouse cursor on NM.

Just some weeks ago I saw an interview with NM manager in Argentina and he said that they don't have plans in MVD. Actually, they have a codeshare EZE-MVD with TAM Mercosur.
And, Pluna flies MVD-GIG-MAD 3 weekly with 767.

Hi Guys...

Everytime I read a post about some Spanish airline I read that everyone has bad experiences on them... (even I have mine on Iberia and Spanair). Why is that? I really dont think that Spanish airmarket includes bad experiences in the price of the ticket... Maybe its time that someone starts a thread called something like: Good experiences in Spanish airlines...

This year Im travelling again to Spain and maybe I´ll seek for flying in Air Europa or Air Nostrum. Hope to find that those airlines are quite good and then I´ll begin the post proposed before.

Regards, AeroMexico777

My impression in general is that Air Madrid was started in response to the demand created after the exodus of people from South American countries into Europe, people who where living below poverty line during difficult times .

Back when Spain did not require a Visa from citizens of such countries, millions from Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and others emigrated there looking for better horizons. After September 11 happened, the TWOV (transit without visa) program was suspended in the US and a need for direct flights from cities in South America and Spain was immediate.

I feel Air Madrid investors just decided to open an "el cheapo" transport service to respond to the above mentioned demand, treating the hordes of pax like cattle (as they were poor immigrants anyway, sad but true).

I have read articles on the Newspapers in Ecuador about their disrespect for passengers. I think it would be a good idea to avoid them whenever possible. How about flying LAN instead? They are flying some of the same routes nowadays.

Airliner World had an article which referred to Air Madrid and stated that the controversial Tomas Cano was involved. Why is he controversial? I know he was involved in Spantax, Hispania, Air Europa and Centennial. If anyone could shed light on this it would be great. Thanks
