I need some help. I was just trying to find the famous checkerboard at Hong Kong's old Kai Tak airport on google earth. I can't find it. The photo was taken after they have already began to redevelope the airport. Has the checkerboard been painted over? Can anyone else find it?

Help!

thanks

Fubar

IIRC it had the red and white colors removed soon after Kai Tak closed as it was no longer used as a "nav aid".

EDIT:
Look for the spot below Lion Rock; in general follow runway 31 for about 2 kilometers and then the spot should be on your right (I don´t use Google Earth, so I can´t give you better directions).

No, it has been removed already. I went back to HKG and have seen it many times. Please see the link below. You can see the red/brown color area. It is close to the tennis courts. (See in the centre of the photo)

I still can't see it. Is it near the tennis courts, next to the track?

You can see it on google earth but it looks like just a plain white board, these are the co-ords, copy and paste the line below into the search on google earth:

22°20'06.10"N 114°11'03.32"E

Looks like two white diagonal lines

Check this link, has all the details including charts a pretty good video:
