So rumor has it that EK was being courted recently by Star. Now I am curious - does anyone know why EK has not joined one of the 3 majors? I know service standards is not it - so any thoughts on this is appreciated.

They've already verbally noted that they like their independence. If anything, there was talk of them allying themselves with the Gulf airlines alliances, a consortium of regional carriers, if I remember. I can't recall what the acronym or proper name was.
But landing EK would be huge for any of the groupings, that's for sure. Whoever delivers that baby will be happy.

I think that EK will remain independent for a long time. With respect to SkyTeam members, at the moment, EK has a codeshare agreement with CO and also an agreement with DL (not sure if it is a codeshare or a mileage accrual/redemption agreement). I am sure that EK has other codeshare arrangements with airlines from other alliances or that, just like EK, are independent.

EK also has a codeshare with UA, and MP members can earn and redeem miles (IIRC).
