Congrats MXP however I cant understand how THAI doesn't put A345/6 on their very important Heathrow run, Eva have just put a 77W on LHR-BKK. I travel a lot to BKK from the UK, I have recently used Qatar who I found to be true 5 star as advertised, Etihad are employing 77W soon LGW-AUH-BKK, I would like to use THAI but I feel they are letting us down with a poor product and high prices. Surely the A346 isn't too dissimilar to a 744 range, payload etc

What's really even more difficult to understand is why they are using the A345, which is for ULH operations on a route like MXP, when they have actually cut down on their JFK flights to 3x per week along with 4x non-stops to LAX.
No doubt they have indicated that although popular, the JFK flights are not really making money, but I figure they need to stick it out and offer daily service if they want to improve yields, otherwise, they should not bother serving JFK or for that matter the USA in the first place, using the A345 on MXP and not to the US is a real waste of resources and opportunity!

Congrats MXP and MXP spotters

LHR is one of the most important routes for TG, always getting high load factors!
The reason why TG doesn't put the 345/346 on the route is that they have a smaller number of seats on board compared to the 744!

I agree, TG needs to sort their product out on the LHR route, that's why I also fly QR when flying to BKK Eva air is great, but no way as good as TG or QR
Alternativly there is BA or QF, but they are more expensive and do not provide such a good service

TG will put the 747-400 with new F and C class seats to LHR starting from January 14th onward. The new F and C class product (seat & IFE) are very good and highly competitive with other airlines.

There is such a thing as demand.... MXP demands less capacity than LHR. Thus the A340-500 is used for MXP and the 747-400 for LHR.

Quoting Lxsaab2000 (Reply 4): Don't you see it before? TG flies to MXP with 345 since 30 Oct.
Exactly!!
Maybe I should start a thread that they fly the A346 to ZRH
Word of warning though, TG revert back to the MD11 from end of March at MXP. I booked a reward ticket a couple of months ago MXP-BKK for April but I have now changed it to ZRH as the MD11s have the worst business seats of any long haul airline I can think of, yet the new seats are among the best.
TG 744 refits are not proceeding as planned and they are several months behind but like already mentioned they need the capacity for LHR and the newly configured aircraft will be introduced on the route from Jan, although as experienced at FRA and especially MUC late aircraft replacements can leave biz and first pax very disapointed by what shows up at the gate.

Quoting Planemanofnz (Reply 10): I think the 346 should be replaced by the 345 in AKL. I think the 346 is too much capacity for this route.
The 345's show up from time to time as replacements. But seriously the MD11's on the AKL-BKK leg were full in winter, BKK-AKL was a little light but then so were alot of the flights via SYD. In summer though its a little different flights are full all the time. The 346 seats 267 the MD11 seats 285, the 345 seats 215 but doesn't offer F.
The problem for TG before was that all their flights were via OZ, 10 weekly 744's last summer, and while these were full most of the pax were only going as far as SYD/BNE because the SYD/BNE-BKK-Europe sectors were sold out before AKL originating pax booked.

are you sure about that? Aircraft sales lists report Thai MD-11 aircraft being available for delivery from April, so they could end up swapping aircraft around again.

When I booked it was down as an A345 then as of 3 weeks ago it was listed as M11 but now it is back to A345!! Well it doesn't matter anyway as ZRH is better for me and given the changes I don't trust Thai not to pull a fast one again. The last thing I'd want is for an MD11 to turn up at the gate.
