Should B6 Try To Fill Indy's Spot At CLT?

I was reading a post about Indy Air and how CLT was a good route for them, and I thought. Maybe Jetblue takes over DH's CLT gate and starts JFK-CLT service?

Didn't give it much thought, but what does everyone else think, might it work?

CLT has been a strong rumor for B6. I'm sure it JFK-CLT and BOS-CLT would be great routes for them. I don't think FlyI's success at CLT would have much influence on them, however.

Maybe they can do 3X JFK-CLT 2X BOS-CLT and 2X IAD-CLT all on the 190's. That can be the January announcement hopefully with those EWR-West Coast Flights.

They could probably do great on the route.

Well I live in Charlotte and I would welcome any change that would crack a dent in the endless sea of US Airways jets here. I am assuming when you said Indy Air your referring to Independence Air, but last I heard they are leaving Charlotte due to their current financial situation. I think a JFK-CLT service with Jet Blue would work really good. I know plenty of people who fly to NYC out of here. Charlotte and NYC are the 2 largest financial centers in the USA so a good route between the 2 cities I think would work great for business travelers.

My point was more now that Indy's gone and CLT I believe now not having a low fare airline, now might be the perfect time. Oh no Indy's gone...Oh wait its Jetblue to save the day  Big grin

I really wouldn't hold my breathe for them announcing EWR-West Coast flights. They went into Newark because they can effectively compete with Continental on high density Florida routes. They can't to California. Continental would run them out very quickly, and jetBlue has more intelligence than that. I love jetBlue, but messing with CO on EWR-California is very different than EWR-Florida.

INDY Air might have had a possibility in CLT(and they still do) if point-to point was brought into CLT. US had the market, but it's anyone's guess at this point.

Has DH even announced they are discontinuing CLT? I know Jan 4th is the deadline for all cities if they don't get an investor, but right now they haven't announced the end in CLT have they?

That sounds a lot better, because when I think of the name Newark, nothing good comes to mind. No offense or anything. I heard they were trying to clean up the city though and improve its image. Well they tried that with Camden too, but it didnt work. By the way, I grew up in Philly and we were sort of trained to have a hatred of New Jersey.  rotfl

All joking about NJ aside, This is the first I have heard of Jet Blue possibly having JFK-CLT route, and I really do hope it comes. And the person who also suggested BOS-CLT, that one I would love because BOS is the only place I ever fly to, and I really dislike US Airways. More choices is what we need here, and definitly more low far carriers. I remember how excited everyone was at the arrival of Independence air but that excitement is now gone, obviously. We do have Air Tran too, but know nothing of what routes it has out of here.

From rumors internally, I can say that CLT is a very promising possibility.

I am not saying how many new Stations we are opening this year, but it will be record breaking for us. More openings this year than any previous year and CLT is one of the most talked about rumors which, based on history, usually means that it will happen eventually.

I Could see Jetblue doing EWR LGB and EWR OAK. Which continental doesn't serve.

Continental would enter those markets immediately if jetBlue were to announce them. In the case of EWR-LGB, it would require going through the process of getting slots, but CO would probably be able to successfully acquire two or three slots by arguging jetBlue has too many, just like AA did a few years ago.

Wouldn't that be a interesting argument, Jetblue controls too much of the airport  Big grin

Once the slots are awarded, it's very unlikely that they would have to give them up to anyone.

With the AA thing years ago, there was a clause that said if AA ever ended service, the slots would revert back to B6, which is what is happening. The other 2 slots are up for a lottery, and CO missed the deadline to enter the lottery.

Well, the difference in the two situations is that EWR isn't slot controlled - anyone can serve the airport anytime they want (although with its current congestion, slots aren't a bad idea), whereas LGB is. Therefore, B6 can serve EWR as much as they want, but CO cannot serve LGB to the same extent if it so desired.

I think that FL will be the first to jump in to fill the void left by the closing of Independence Air. They are cutting a few of their P2P routes to Saturday only, and that will give them some extra a/c to devote to some new services.

As for B6, have they even mentioned the number of new cities they may add this year? I'm sure CLT is on the list of cities they would like to start service to, but how far on the list could they be?

I also wouldn't be surprised if WN decides to jump into CLT as well as a result.

EWR isn't slot controlled but it is sure gate controlled. Theres only so many flights you can push out of 1 gate in a day. With Continental staying in A to reduce those gates that would be available to Jetblue, I think its a fair comparision.
