Happy New Year's Everyone!

On the above date I and my partner will be flying TPA-MIA-JFK-YHZ. The sector above from MIA to JFK is operated by a 767-200 - a three class aircraft sold as a two class. I'm traveling on a "V" fare ticket and was wondering a few things:

- How many 762's still have the elusive 17H/J seats? Seatguru.com said to ask about them on my day of departure?

- Rows 7-11? The J cabin is there but sold as Y. Should I politely inquire about these when first checking in @ TPA or speak to the gate agent in MIA when connecting? I know they're probably avilable to full fare "Y" pax or high level AAdvantage members...but it never hurts to ask to see if we can be seated there.

Can any AA employees check this stuff for me? Any info you need can be supplied.

Thx, JasYHZ

Anyone?

When an AA 3-class aircraft is sold as a 2-class flight, as this one is, the business class cabin is available to coach passengers. The seats can be pre-assigned but are generally available to AA elites (Gold, PLatinum, Executive Platinum) or those flying on a full fare ticket (Y or B).

When you arrive at the airport in TPA you can ask for a seat in rows 7 to 11, and if available it can be assigned.

Row 17 is held for Gate Agent assignment only, the reason is to have seats for handicapped, elderly, or other passengers needing special care. In your case only the AAgent in MIA is supposed to be able to assign those seats. Be the first one in line at MIA when the agent opens the flight, and you may be able to get the seat assigned to you.

That's how it is supposed to work, but as with everything in life, the rules are broken at times by an Admirals Club Agent, Special Services Representative, or MIA ticket agent who may have given the seats to another person even before the flight opens for gate check-in.

In my past experience, AA B767-200s on domestic flights utilize both the First and Business cabin as domestic First when sold as 2-class, given the very tiny 9 seat First cabin.

This happens when a 762 is subbed.

I guarantee you that the 762 from MIA-JFK-MIA and the 777s DFW-ORD-DFW; DFW-MIA-DFW are sold as 2 class flights and the biz cabin is made available to the elites and full-fare pax as coach service.

That makes sense. The last two times I saw this it was subbed for a B767-300 once, and a B757-200 the other time.

Enjoy the flight. For the past year now it's been my preferred flight when I have to travel up to NYC.

The AA 762 is such a great plane. On my last flight up to JFK on #1378, JFK was fogged in and we did an auto-land (the captain announced it on the P/A after we were off the runway). Exciting stuff!
