I was wondering if there is a set date regarding the results of the FlyI auction? When will we find out what UA, Mesa, and other bidders got if anything?

Thanks!

I think the press release about them ceasing operations on Thursday pretty much explains how the auction went.

Not really, but okay. I was under the impression that the other airlines were bidding for FlyI assets, were they not?

The auction will no doubt happen after they cease operating.

Yes, you are right.

Indy has not received a suitable bid to keep it flying as a going concern.

Indy has received a bid from United for "some assets" - although no one knows what those assets are. United had to get the approval of their own bk judge to do this.

And the Washington Post says that Mesa has also bid for "some assets".

Supposedly, the results will be known on January 3.

cheers

Hopefully UA will gain the A gates and bulldoze that "lovely" Concourse G. Any word on who will be getting DH's gates in the B concourse? Maybe we will see UA 170s in the B gates in the not so distant future.

Perhaps we'll see some FlyI stuff at some of the airliner conventions this year.

It does look that proceedings are on track for the auction on Tuesday in the Delaware court. Bids were closed on Dec 16...UAL made a sealed bid and apparently Mesa did also....both rumored to be only for some of FLYI's pieces and not the carrier as a whole. There was a rumor of Virgin and the operating certificate but that has pretty much disappeared. That seems to be the sum total of bidders willing to be identified....if there are others their plans have not been disclosed.

This morning's announcement confirmed those rumors by stating there was not a qualified bidder for the airline as a whole. The furlough and announced shutdown can only speed the acquisition of those assets and so one can believe that this is all being done with the quiet tacit approval of the court, creditors, and bidders.

As for who get's what...rumors of UA taking A for Ted and UAXs are out there as well as Mesa taking the rj's due to the low lease rates FLYI got on them in Feb of this past year. The airbus fleet is not engine compatible to the majority of current US operators as well as upcoming Virgin America...UAL and Spirit do match up however.

I think UA should buy some flyi trucks and make TV commercials with them...

Commercial one:

Tight in shot of a flyi truck driving on the ramp at IAD with some nice music in the background. Then a voice over that says: "This is what happens when you mess with United"...at the same time the truck gets crushed by a mobile lounge that comes out of nowhere. "United crushed Independence" Then some hard rock music and fade to the UA logo.  Smile

Commercial two:

Same voice-over and tight in shot, except ghost ride a flyi truck behind a taxiing 777 similar to the infamous video at SFO, but add a voice over after it gets blown away to the effect of "United blew away flyi's competition".  Smile
