Predictions For First 747-8I Passenger Order

What airline do you think will be the first to order the passenger version of the new 747-8I? When do you think it will be? My bet goes with BA within the next year or so.

I'm sure Boeing would like to get a launch carrier before 2007 and before BA decides on there fleet renewal sometime this spring if indeed that does happen.
I personally thought that CX would order it but that has come and gone with there 12 firm 777-300ER's and purchase rights for 20 additional.

They are still evaluating the 748 and A388.

Until when.... Are they looking to place another order this yr? Also what would they use this a/c on? I thought they were just looking at the 777/A350 and chose to go with the 773ER. Is CX looking expand there route structure with all these new a/c they are buying?

The B 777-300ERs are for expansion. They are not replacing any aircraft with the B 777-300ERs apart from a few ex-SQ A 340-300s or their leased A 340-600s. Not sure about the B 777-200s though.

There is a good chance that they will go with the B 747-8

I think LH will ultimately order the B748 and BA as well. While LH is ordering the A380, there are routes which will be far better served with the B748. Also, I think this will allow some of the more used B744 to be removed from the fleet, either converted to frieghters or sold-off to other air carriers. I think also AF may want to check into the B748, and possibly Thai as well.

I have heard from a friend on A.Net that Air New Zealand may order the 747-800 soon. It would look great in their color scheme

I can't really say anything about SQ and QF as I have no clue.

But...unfortunately I doubt NH will go for it. They are going smaller and actually getting rid of their 744s. They are using 773 on trunks and then using 767s on medium to be replaced by 787. The 737s are doing Inter-Asia (Korea, China, Taiwan) and domestic point-to-point. The A320s are going to be replaced by 737NGs. They stated last year that their future fleet would not have 747s. Now that could change but they seem to want to do more hub to point, point to point and long thin.

JL could go for the 747-I. They have 747-200, -300 and -400. The -200s and even some -300s are being replaced by 773s. But it seems that they are going to pull the same move as NH and go for 773s and then do more hub-to-point and point-to-point.

Correct me if I'm off here.
