"Working Together" Concept On 787?

After the succes of the "working together" concept developd by boeing and many partner airlines when it came to desining the 777, creating many innovative features and also positioning things and whatnot that airlines wanted and Boeing built into the aircrafT. Did they do this as well with the 787, or did they just learn from the 777 and go from there?

From day 1 the 787 was designed by consulting the potential customers. JAL and ANA were big parts of this, and were one reason the 787-3 was launched. Their order alone will break even on the derivative, and it may open up orders from other carriers like AA, though many think to remain flexible, most carriers would just buy all 788s (price is about the same).

My understanding is that they have used both the original working together group, and new feedback to work on this plane. However, they also incorporated input from Banks!!! The reasoning behind that is that planes are such capital investments, and planes tend to change hands multiple times. Therefore the banks know what features they want to be able to ensure that the 787 remains a profiable bird for a long time.

The next 737 replacement? That will almost certainly be designed by WN and maybe NW as a part of a DC-9 fleet replacement effort.

Bank input was vital in the engine neutral design of the 787, and also the single engine choice for the GE90-115 777s and the Genex 748.

Just makes things much easier on the used market if you can be sure that the entire worldwide fleet has one engine, or if the higher volume 787 can be resold as spare engine and spare plane to be reengined as the new buyer/lessee sees fit.

WN yes. AA definitely. CO definitely. DL, if they are around. Those 4 will place over 1000 orders and options for the 737/757 replacement.

NW, not likely. Half their DC9s are too small to be replaced by 797s. More likely EJETS. Other half will be replaced by A320 series or A320NG most likely.

That page changed since last week! Last week it said the 788 was about $3 million more, not worth talking about. Even at 7-10% more, still makes sense to go all 788 for flexibility and resale potential though.
