Sorry if this is a topic everyone is sick of, but everywhere I look, there is conflicting reports about what DL is going to do with Song. And if it isn't conflicting, it's very vague information. The official site says Song flights will continue through May and then DL will use Song for long-haul. Originally, reports suggested that Song would be transformed into DL mainline, but now it sounds like Song will still be kept around. Does anyone know what exactly is going on? And if so, will Song remain as Song ie. the livery staying the same, or will the 757's be repainted for mainline and Song services will be added to mainline?? Please help!

As of May, the Song 757s will return to the Delta fleet and be repainted in DL colors - whether that's immediately or as they go in for heavy mx, I don't know. DL's initial plan is to refit the Song airplanes with a first-class cabin and DL colors; as time goes by, the Song interior with legroom, PTVs, etc. will eventually be retrofitted as the standard economy cabin on the rest of DL's 752s, as well as their 738s and domestic 763s.
Current plans are for the first "Song-fitted" aircraft to be deployed on domestic routes over 1750 miles. It's not been stated, but it seems likely that to compete with B6 aircraft with the Song economy section will also fly the existing Song routes. As more aircraft get retrofitted, and presumably the rest of DL's outstanding 738 order begins to be built and delivered, domestic first and Song-style coach will be the standard DL domestic product.
In short, the name and colors of Song are going away. The product and service of Song is becoming the standard economy product and service of DL.

Quoting Cloud4000 (Reply 2): I thought only DL 757s will get this treatment. Are they planning to this for all the 737-800s or only a select few?
My understanding is that the current Song product is slated to become the standard DL coach product, but it's not an overnight change. The changeover will probably happen as the 752s and 738s come in for mx. It will probably be several years before the entire "modern" domestic fleet (752, 738, domestic 763 - the MDs and older 732/733s won't get it and I'm not sure what the plan is for economy on the int'l 763/764ERs and 772s) will be outfitted with the Song-style interior. I believe the first goal is to introduce the new product on domestic routes over 1750 miles during the next year or so, and I would guess (but don't know one way or the other) that they would also continue to fly the current Song routes.

As I've said in previous threads; Good riddance to the Song name. It is a stupid tooty fruity name. The Widget has more cache and class. Just absorb it and go on. Probably one of DL's better recent choices as of late!

The 737-800 are not currently getting the Song interiors or IFE. Right now they are getting the same interior mod that has been installed on the MD88 and some of the 757 fleet. A couple have been completed. Some of the all coach config will get first class installed. I don't know how many. The first one gets done in about two weeks.
As for mods for the Song fleet and the mentioned conversions of the other 757s nobody is saying much as to when or where the mods will be done. The speculation about the 767 fleet is also just that. Some of the 767ER models that have been in domestic service will be coming in for international conversions. The first one comes in next week I think. I doubt it will be a complete cabin upgrade with IFE. The plane isn't showing in dock long enough for that much work.
