Starting in 2006 CHC is going to make major extensions to the airport. Apparently they are going to combine the domestic and international terminal. Does anyone know new airlines that will start services between 2006 through to 2009

In the June 2005 edition of 'Australian Aviation', it said that apparantley Thai is going to start services to CHC in 2006 - now this year. The magazine said : "New services are planned to Moscow and Johannesburg later this year, Christchurch next year, Hiroshima and Shenzen in 2007, and Manchester and Berlin after that.

On another note I hope to see either Cathay Pacific or Air New Zealand operate a CHC-HKG route.

It could just be an add on from Australia or Auckland even though TG said that the reason it was exiting the trans-tasman market was because they believe that there is no place for a full service carrier to fly between Australia and New Zealand. If it were direct I would expect something with not too much capacity. Possibly an A340-500?, or a 346?

How about re-continuation from SYD like how AKL was served only last year?

I'm thinking that the Moscow route could result after CX get a route to CHC, and the MAN through the HKG-Moscow-MAN flight.

Does Shenzhen Airways have long haul flights? It seems weird to think that AKL doesn't even have a flight to JNB, yet CHC are planning getting a route like that.

It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Thats a negative, for now. The only 777 flight planned out of CHC in NZ colours is the CHC-LAX flight later in the year,

Last time I flew out of CHC (a couple of weeks ago) the Dom terminal and the Int terminal were all in the same building. A simple 3 minute walk on the ground floor.

So just what is the work to be done. I think you will find the TERMINAL is going to be extended, not joined.

I'm not sure how but at the moment the domestic flight are at one end of the terminal and the international at the other end. And I think that there going to make it SO that both international and domestic flights are in the same area. This site might help www.airportcity.co.nz

Will we ever see any domestic 777 routes like the current flight from Japan to CHC via AKL?

Probably when the 777 takes over the 747/767 on the NRT-CHC-AKL route in April.

The original plans were daily B777s
