And the difference is SWA would have made money on that ticket where anyone else would have taken a loss..

Those of you who say SWA is trying to kill off other airlines, just remember that SWA charges fares that cover costs plus a small profit not just to gain market share.

Way to go SWA for moving to Denver... Saves everyone money and their level of service isn't that far off from many legacies on domestic routes.

It's called competition. Where possible, healthy competition should always exist. In today's airline climate, it is expected that those insufficiently fit and healthy won't survive - and rightly so. Indeed, only the fittest survive.

How can you be sure? Southwest fares are very fuzzy. It entered Dallas-StLouis with $49 fares. Great uh? But Southwest customers flying Dallas-Albuquerque, which is the same distance, can only get on for at least $107.

Southwest's fares as it enters a market are not good predictors of what they will charge once the novelty wears off.

As I've shown above, this is far from reality.

One gets a feast on SWA compared to legacies. . . at no extra charge, either.

It's called an introductory fare and it's purpose is to promote a new service and stimulate the market. Nothing new here, all airlines - and businesses - do it.

As is your idea of how Southwest operates and makes money.

I wish they'd go more places - Boston especially, Prov. and Manch are not close enough to really drive down the Boston market imo. It costs $300+ to go in/out of there to pretty much anywhere.

I believe they call that the "Northwest Effect" NWA drops the fair to bottom of the barrel (see FAR-LAS right now) then once the new bee leaves goes back to full price  Smile
Long live WN and hopefully soon in MSP  Smile
