Here's an interesting flight, a WN 737 arrived at McGuire Air Force Base New Jersey from Midway. Then departed McGuire Air Force Base for Quad City Airport?..

Well, with Soutwest doing a lot of 'welcome home' flights for the military, McGuire being a major USAF base and point of entry my guess would be a Guard Unit just came home.

If you see a SWA flight on an oddball city-pair and it's on weekend or late at night, chances are excellent that it's a charter, or a positioning ferry in support of a charter...

Definetly a Guard Unit, Fort Dix handles pre and Post Deploments for Guard and Reserve Troops. They even built a new ramp from McGuire to Fort Dix so that they can load and off load troops and supplies right onto the Fort.
It's the first time I've seen WN doing one of these charters, it's usually World or ATA.

damn...wish I was closer to MLI today...
Would have loved to have gotten a pic of the Southwest iron there.

I actually designate MLI as an alternate for MDW and STL sometimes, since it's closer (and thus less fuel) than MCI.
I usually get a call from the crew, telling me that I made a "typo" by typing MLI instead of MCI, when in fact I meant Moline all along. Since the VOR there is MZV and it's a westbound fix departing MDW, nobody thinks about the airport itself much... Having worked there eons ago, I know it's a viable airport...
If I ever have to actually divert one there, I'll call ya...

WN is a very substantial supplier of domestic (as opposed to long-range international CRAF) military charter. A significant amount of domestic military charter is moving guard and reserve units around for exercises. Hope this helps.

A National Guard Unit from the Quad City area, Alpha Company, of 2nd Battalion the 123rd Field Artillery Unit, returned on that flight. Here is the link the local news story.

Hey- friend of mine who is a pilot for SWA he was flying into STL and he said dispatch called MWA as the divert airport into STL and MWA is only 15 minutes away from me, he also thought they meant MCI too. MWA is a viable airport as well and only a 2 hr drive, but why regionl airports? wouldnt BNA be the better divert, or SDF?
