Hey all....
Just read this article on atwonline.com:
"Bmi will begin daily London Heathrow-Doha service by the end of March aboard an A330-300 wet-leased from Qatar Airways and a thrice-weekly LHR-Jeddah service April 26 using its own 767-300ERs......"
Does anyone know about bmi obtaining the 767? Or maybe it was just a typing error by atwonline?
Bmi are getting are 767-300ER from Arkefly (or whatever their name is now) in Holland whilst one of their 330s goes for heavy maintenance in MNL i think it is. The 767 is also rumoured to take over the MAN routes to LAS, BGI and ANU for a while.

B742,
You will not see the 767 in full BMI colours. The aircraft will operate for BMI in Star Alliance colours. It has been painted recently in the basic star alliance colours. At this moment it is still waiting for the STAR ALLIANCE titles.

Does anyone know whose flight/cabin crew it will use?
Will the cabin be kitted out in bmi's configuration with premium economy, inflight chef etc etc? or will they make another attempt at commercial suicide and not deliver on what they advertise?

I am crossing my fingers that Bmi add Dammam. There is only LH and KL now from Europe and no flights at all to London. A twice weekly schedule could work. BA used to fly DMM-London daily with the 777!!!

Dammam-London. Used to be daily by BA - now no flights. Used to be 4-5 per week by Saudia - now no flights.
Isn't there a message here ??
Most passengers seem to be quite happy driving over the causeway to BAH to fly cheaper from there.

Is this a code share, or is Qatar actually leasing them an A330, and will it be in BMI colors? Given Qatar is expanding like crazy, I don't see how they can lease anybody anything.

I no, I was just saying it would be great to see one in full bmi colours

I agree, I hope to see DMM and DXB added soon!
Why did BA drop DMM?

It's kind of a wierd deal, QR will lease Bmi an A330-300, which will operate in QR colours and with a QR crew, only it will have a Bmi flight number
"bmi will also commence a daily service to Doha from Heathrow in the Summer of 2006. The service will commence on 26 March and, subject to government approval, will be operated under a wet lease agreement with Qatar Airways. At the same time bmi's existing codeshare agrement with Qatar Airways will be expanded to allow bmi to sell Qatar Airways flights from Heathrow to Doha under bmi's flight code. This will further consolidate the presence of bmi at both Heathrow and in the Gulf region and mark another major step in the global reach of the airline".

An application has been made by bmi to the CAA for the government approval required to operate the 763 and the 330:

This application gives lease dates and registration details.

PH-MCV is still flying for ArkeFly at the moment, but it seems it has more technical problems/delays then what it is flying This week ArkeFly had to lease a Air Plus A310 and Hapag Lloyd 738 to back up their schedule caused by a technical delay of the 763 at BJL.
I hope bmi made a good choice with this a/c

QR has found a sly (and unethical IMHO) way around the bilateral with the united kingdom. Basically this allows them to increase frequencues using a BD flight number.
