Looks Like AC is expanding fast in Asia, yet another flight to China. Nice to see AC expanding its network.. I just wonder how AC's fleet can keep up. Its too bad we won't see any leased B777 this year, I guess the A343 are gonna be working hard!

From AChorizons.ca:

"Service to China continues to expand – Toronto-Shanghai non-stop flights announced. Today, we announced our introduction of non-stop service between Toronto and Shanghai with three times per week service effective June 16. With the launch of this new route, Air Canada will be the only carrier offering non-stop service between the largest commercial cities of Canada and China. “With the introduction of the only non-stop service to Shanghai, Air Canada continues to expand its services to meet the needs of travellers and freight forwarders in the fast growing China market,” said Ben Smith, Vice President, Network Planning. “Together with our non-stop Toronto-Beijing service and daily non-stop flights to China via Vancouver, Air Canada is improving access to China for customers throughout North and South America via our main Toronto hub.” The new route will be operated using A340-300 aircraft and will save travellers more than three hours in each direction compared to the Vancouver routing."

Do you know if AC have a few 767's on the way? I saw a picture a few days ago of a "fresh" 767 (-200, I believe).

I doubt B767 will make it non-stop. Has to be A343.

Yah, I'm pretty sure as well. However, I was kinda assuming it would stop in YVR or ANC.

It must have been an artists rendering. Fleet refurbishment doesn't commence until Spring/06.

Will check the RESIII system. Beijing was scheduled to go daily for the summer, and given the aircraft shortage, wonder if this will be maintained or whether they'll go for a 4/3 (PEK/SHA) mix.

UPDATED -

Don't know where the aircraft is coming from but Asia schedule as follows from YYZ:

NRT (Daily 343)
PEK (Daily 343)
ICN (3 X weekly 343)
PVG(3 X weekly 343)
HKG (Daily 345)

I believe AC will be adding one A340 and one or two B763ER in 2006.

Quoting BuyantUkhaa (Reply 5):

Just to clarify,

Starting in June, AC YYZ-SHA (non-stop, meaning no stops) flown by A343

Current Air Canada flight, AC 37/38, YVR-SHA B763.

The link shows the photo I was referring to. I am not sure if that plane is being scrapped or ready to ship out. As far as I know, AC is not getting rid of their 762's just yet. Any ideas?

BTW, the img thing does not seem to be working. Oh well, Im not a programmer or anything anyways!

And don't forget the daily 763 to TLV. Might be trans-Atlantic, but in Asia.

AC did park a number of its B762 in the dessert . Some have returned to service and taken out of service again. I think AC is retiring the older B762's, but there is no way it will retire its entire B762 fleet anytime soon, some have been repainted but only the -300ER models will receive the refurbishing.

That's a great overview! Thanks. As a matter of interest, could you provide the same overview for Asia flights from YVR?

Thanks!

only the -300ER models will receive the refurbishing.

The entire fleet including whatever 762's remain will be refurbished. The majority of 763's will be equipped with the "suites" for International operations, while some will remain in domestic configuration.

How may 76Xs does AC have left in the desert? I'd imagine there afre at least one or two that could be in flying shape pretty quickly.

I believe they have 6 owned 767-200 aircraft parked in the desert. This may be not be completely accurate, but gives you some idea. I haven't heard of any new widebody aircraft joining the fleet this year, unless it's a suppose to be a secret. I do know that last year they received 1 A343 from JM and 2 763 from KQ.

Was curious so I did some more research. There are 8 767s listed as being in storage on this site: http://www.contrailsphotography.com/fleets/acwide.html

In addition a third 763 was received from RG and previously operated by CP, in its original 25J/187Y configuration. The 343 from JM was received in deplorable shape, and had considerable hours spent on it to bring it up to standard.

Because they only have 2 aircraft  Wink

I believe the daily YYZ-HKG is a "Flagship" route, hence the A345 use??
